Community Service
Being a nominee, I realize that the National Honor Society is an honor to be in itself. Since The National Honor Society is dedicated to helping the needy, children, the elderly and non-profit organizations. I feel that this is the right society for me because since I was a child, I have been noted for my exceptional empathy. My parents have always instilled in me a sense of responsibility and care for others. I feel obligated to utilize my gifts in an organization as prestigious as the National Honor Society. Over the past years as a scholar, I believe that I have demonstrated all four principles: scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

During my high school career, I have put a lot of effort into my schoolwork and have challenged myself with many advanced courses. I have successfully been competing with other students for the top position in certain subjects since elementary school.

I have received the Honor roll every year since I moved to the United States. Being selected as a potential candidate for the NHS proves my academics but what makes me a great candidate is not just my average.

It is difficult to narrow down the many instances where I have showed great leadership but many can be found in my involvements in teamwork. I have been looked to as a leader and have taken responsibility for various group projects. I have discovered much about fairness, compromise, and responsible qualities that are required to be a "good" leader. Often, I have had to sacrifice my own free time and personal desires for the benefit of the group. I believe this is the most important part of being a leader, the ability to sacrifice individual time and desires for the overall gain of the people that you are leading.

I haven’t had much involvement in the local community but I have been a benefit to the internet community. I design and maintain web sites at my own cost and time and hold administrator and moderator positions in several popular online forums

The National Honors Society is more than just a honor roll, but an organization that recognizes the efforts made by hard working high school students. I would like to join National Honors Society because it would challenge my development in both my community and my school. The National Honors Society, consisting of over one million students, would make me a part of a large community that could create many opportunities for me in the future. A highly respected organization such as the National Honors Society is very significant to me. The scholarships and programs offered by this organization helps increase my ability to get the education that I desire that I might not have been able to receive due to the rapidly rising costs of college. Community service is a very important factor when it comes to bettering your society. Through my own experiences and observations I have come to support and believe my opinion on this issue. To me community service means giving back to the community, it means your helping other people. It also shows the community that the young people today have kindness and manners. And care about where they are and that they also want to live happy and in peace knowing that we can help other people and they appreciate the service we have done.he benefits of community service are helping others and knowing that your making a different, meeting new friends while networking throw the community service work you are doing and that also can be fun while bettering your self and at the same time increasing your productivity and learning new skill to use at a later time. But the best benefits of community service are to help bring change to your own environment and give your life a purpose. Community Service is our opportunity to improve not only our surroundings, but ourselves. First of all, sometimes there are needs that cannot always be filled by government; it is up to the citizens to fill that need. By taking it upon themselves to better their communities.…

I disagree with the statement saying that there should be 60 hours of community service done, in order to graduate. I believe that if a student does community service, he or she should do it because he or she wanted to do it. Not because he or she was forced to do it. I think community service is done not only to help the community, but to get a sense of gratitude after you have willingly helped out the community on your own. After doing good things for your community, you realize how much you helped someone out, and that feeling only comes after knowing that you did a certain deed on your own. I disagree with a requirement of community service to graduate, because not everyone is going to enjoy it.…

The concept of requiring community service of college students as a requirement for graduation is based on the idea that communities and individuals can be helped in their development through volunteer service. Community service provides the opportunity for students to share their knowledge, skills, and abilities with someone who might not have benefited from such actions otherwise. Community service should be a requirement for college graduation because it helps to alleviate problems of society, positively molds a student's manner of thought, and helps the student achieve career goals in his or her future. When college students devote even minute amounts of their time to the community, their intelligence, compassion, and expertise can influence society in many ways that are greatly needed. There are many places in which educated help is needed, like organizations and leadership positions, instead of unskilled manual labor, which is needed, but cannot be successful if there are no volunteers to fill the specialized positions. Even a short amount of time with a service organization or a single event can expose a student to a meaningful learning experience, and that one student can impact one disadvantaged person's exist. Community service does not have just one single meaning, however it has many. Community service means something different to every person in the world. To me community service means helping not only your community, but also your school, state, and country. It means to be kind and caring to others, to help out those who are less fortunate then you. Community service is when you take time out of your life to do something that will better other people not only physically, but also mentally, and in addition will improve your surroundings. What I enjoyed most about the Greek Club in Egypt was how the people helped each other and how friendly the people were. All they thought about was how to get through the day as a team. Helping people seemed the most…

Community service isn’t about padding one’s resume, it isn’t about doing things so that one might be proud and arrogant about it. But it is the dawning realization of to the greater understanding our humanity, our fragility and a greater appreciation of the great lives that so many of us lead and deem to be “normal” when it pretty much is extraordinary in its own respect relative to many other individuals around the world. I spent my hours, dedicated to Community service, as an intern at the North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital. Although taking part in this internship was initiated in order to further my knowledge and experience in the medical field, I was taught how to make relations with unknown people that were for the most part, ill. This has been one of the greatest experiences because I got the chance to interact with many different types of people including doctors, nurses, hospital staff members, and patients. This was a double gift for me because my interests in medicine have been greatly expanded and I was given the honor of being able to help those that were in need, whether it was reading a short book to them, or even closing the curtain in their room upon their request.…

As one of the coordinators of the St. Stephen’s AIDS Dinner I feel it’s every individual’s responsibility to help others in their community and beyond. The weekly routine is to travel into New York City to help serve food at Stephen's church to men and women who suffer from AIDS. The women and men who attend the Saint Stephens AIDS dinner are in a way people who have lost many things in life due to their illness. In many cases many have lost the support from their families, the opportunity to work in certain jobs, and the ability to share their life with a close partner, in addition to creating a family. Many of them even have become homeless, and so seek to find places such as this one where they will provide a few of the necessities they need to survive. As the semester went by I would come to learn how the program worked, my role in the program, how the program grew, and the changes I feel could be made to better the program.…

I helped out most of my hours of community service for the Laguna Creek Junior Cardinals (LCJC) football team .What happened was in my first 4 hours of community service I helped divide recycle from trash and empty out the trash at one of my brothers football game. My supervisor for those hours for LCJC was Lora the head coach for the cheerleaders. A week later for 4 hours I clean-up and break down the facility around the field. Later next week I did the same thing for another 6 hours, setting up and putting away the facility and cleaning up afterwards. After working 14 hours for the football team I thought of what else could I do for the rest of my service hours. This is what happened, my mom suggest that I should do more service at our church and I agreed to do it. My supervisor for my service was the church pastor Charles. What happened was for 2 hours I just did the normal stuff like setting up and cleaning afterwards, like I did at my brothers football games. It was the same thing for the next few weeks, cleaning up, setting up, breaking down and also greeting people in the morning before church started. All the stuff I’ve been doing was not must but I did learn about the impotents of cleaning up the community and to serve and welcome others. This is about it for my community service for this year I lust hope that next year, I can do more for my community and I’m not just saying that, I really want to do better next year for my community…

“We can do no great things, only small things with great love” – Mother Teresa. It is the honest truth that no one person can change the world, but if everyone comes together with a big heart to stand up for a common cause it could become revolutionary. We teenagers and young adults are the future of this nation and we need to work hard to make living here more pleasant for the less fortunate. Everyone needs a push to do something, so public schools should require their students to participate in community service. A public school student is defined as any child being educated at a public school from grades kindergarten through twelfth grade. Obviously, younger kids will have to perform easier services than the older, experienced ones. Reasons why this movement should take effect are that community service will keep students from doing bad things, it will give students more experiences, and it looks great on college applications.…
