My site visit to theProbation Office was interesting I’ve never been in the building before and I didn’t know what I was going to expect going on in their or what went on in their. When I had arrived upstairs Glenn had showed me they way around the probation office first he brought us into his office and basically told us what we need to know about probation such as probation officers have duties, such as working within the corrections system and being employed by, state or federal corrections departments. Sometimes the Probation officers perform many duties specific to probation and deal with offenders who have been convicted of a crime but not sent to jail.
Probation officers work with offenders who have been sentenced to probation and will therefore not go to prison for their offense. Probation officers conduct pre-sentence investigations and write reports on convicted criminals …show more content…
Since they are working with criminals, it can put them in dangerous situations. Probation officers often have to visit the homes and work places of their clients they are monitoring. This puts them in a vulnerable position when they are walking inside one of the offenders houses they don’t know who’s in their or what is in their they have no idea what they are going to expect. If there are drugs in the house or guns a probation officers life is in danger everyday.
Another Program talked about was Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is a nationwide commitment to reduce gun and gang crime in America by networking existing local programs that target gun and gun crime and providing these programs with additional tools necessary to be successful this started back on 2001. This program also does not let offenders carry weapons and if they are caught with them they could go back to jail but the courts deal with that not the probation
