Community Policing

When it comes to police administration, it is a must that they are comfortable with their environment to do their job effectively. The environment plays an important role in shaping environmental operations. To be effective, police officers must form relationships with the citizens in that community, environment. There are a variety of environmental conditions that affect the structure of the environment. Legal conditions refer to how the legislature, courts and local governing bodies expect how the police to perform when it comes to complying with their job. Some communities have laws and ordinances that are enforced for not only the citizens but the police officers to comply by as well. Demographic conditions are the characteristics that make up a community. Each ethnic group may make a certain amount of demands on the police and the police must be able to fulfill each demand. Some organizations may react to their environment differently which are categorized into two theories. “The theory of uncertainty and dependence is how organizations maintain a balance throughout changes between organizational outcomes and environmental expectations. The theory of natural selections is how organizations to reach their environment efficiently (Gaines & Worrall, 2011).
No, I’m not saying all media is bad but, it shows the people certain things and not all the facts causing the people to dislike the police. For instance, media today displays a lot of racism; it shows Caucasian police officers using excessive, killing of African Americans, racial profiling. It is rare that you see an officer apprehending a Caucasian the same way. It also shows a lot of police corruption that we would not expect to be coming from police officers.
