1. Having demonstrated its versatility as a high-tech newswire, Twitter drew the attention of those who would prefer to see certain information suppressed.
Synonym- ambidexterity
Explanation- I decided to use ambidexterity, because “versatility” states that Twitter is flexible and can be a easily manipulated site when the sentence is clearly making Twitter appear the opposite.

2. Millions of users attempted to log into Twitter only to be greeted by the service's iconic "fail whale," the image of a cartoon whale being hoisted into the air by a flock of birds, signaling a site outage.
Synonym- recognizable
Explanation- I chose the word recognizable because “iconic” is usually used to describe something popular.

3. Following the earthquake that struck Haiti in January 2010, Twitter reaffirmed its role as a powerful tool for the dissemination of information.
Synonym- spreading
Explanation- I chose spreading because “dissemination” too powerful of a term just to say “spreading of information”
Their marching orders came from President Obama only hours after the high court threw out part of the Defense of Marriage Act. And the task was clear: review more than 1,000 rules and laws that cover all kinds of federal benefits to make sure gay and lesbian couples get their due.

"This is a civil rights matter," Attorney General Eric Holder says. "In many ways, I think it's akin to the struggle that African-Americans went through in the '50s and the '60s to demand equal treatment, to be allowed to enjoy all the benefits that flow to a person who is nothing more than an American citizen."

It is based on responds from the respondents on her previous article about the same topics. She shows the effectiveness of Twitter with the 140 characters limit and Twitter’s symbols like retweet. She somehow classifies the purposes to the personal group and the business group. She mentions “making friends” and “procrastination” which are personal. She also mentions “events” and “promotion” which are more business purpose. She shows a slight comparison between Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn on “Making Friends” and claims that Twitter “isn’t just a ‘business’ or ‘personal’ network”. I can use this article as a base of my topic since it shows different purposes of tweeting. It doesn’t really say anything about English language so I need to do more research on that. It is obvious that the users will change the way they tweet based on their purposes. Surprisingly the characters limit is actually the attractive part of Twitter. It helps users to communicate faster and more…

In the article “How Twitter Will Change the Way We Live”, the author Steven Johnson writes about Twitter and its impact on how we live. Twitter is a social network site that lets you make status updates with up to 140 characters. You follow celebrities or people you know and tweet about your daily activities, how you are feeling, what you are eating, etc. The author says Twitter is so interesting because it gives you a glimpse of someone’s daily routine, and gives you information without even having to ask. The author predicts Twitter will become addictive and a whole new distraction on the Internet.…

On June 26th, 2015, cheers erupted across America -- big businesses, people and even the White House shamelessly coated itself in rainbow colors to show their support of something years in the making: the legalization of same sex marriage. After years of protests, riots, campaigns, parades, mainstream activism, celebrity, political and even big business support, same sex marriage was legalized by the US Supreme Court in all fifty states on June 26th, 2015. Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court case that made the ruling possible, garnered mixed reactions across America: some excited for the dawn of a more accepting America while others were quick to search for loopholes around the ruling. Despite the reactions, the legalization of same-sex…

Over the last several decades, gay rights advocates have made significant strides in better protecting homosexuals from discrimination, violence, and exclusion. However, many people assert that gays continue to experience discrimination on a scale unequaled by almost any other minority population. Despite the hard-won gains that now allow many in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community (often abbreviated as GLBT or LGBT) —including those serving as elected officials, in high-profile business roles, and in the military—to be open about their sexuality, they are still denied what gay rights advocates contend is one of the most basic rights that heterosexual Americans take for granted: the right to marry and have that marriage recognized by the U.S. and state governments. Indeed, in recent years, dozens of states and jurisdictions have passed legislation explicitly outlawing same-sex marriage, while several others—including Connecticut, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.—have legalized the practice.…

This place is called home. It is kept in our memories as an ideal one, even if it is not so perfect. Home serves as a kind of fortress to us, our freedom and deeds. The word home is a many faceted word that combines different concepts. Home is culture, religion, the place where you live, friends, relatives, neighbors, cuisine, personal objects and environment. Home should be the place where you feel secure, free and in the state of wellness and physical well-being. It is often associated with parents, siblings, warmth and comfort. However, international students do suffer a lot from this psychological sickness, and so when they lose at least one of these components they feel homesick and start to understand the meaning of the word “Home.”…
