1. What are the different forms of social media that exist today? Provide examples of different social media and their primary purposes. Blogging, social networking, video sharing, instant messaging, wiki web sites, Blogging- sites that contain articles in chronological, journal like form, often with reader comments and links to other websites. Social networking- like MySpace, face book, Friendster is some common sites. Video sharing- uploads like from you tube and everyone else can view it. Instant messaging- enables users to send and receive real-time computer messages, also a fast growing feature since the late 1990s. Wiki site- enables anyone to edit and contribute to them. Examples are wiki travel and Wikipedia.

2. What are the greatest benefits of social media for individuals and society? Social media provides worldwide coverage, breaking news, to reach a larger and broader reader than standard media outlets by themselves. Easy access when trying to find something like directions, talk to someone over across the world for free.

3. What are the greatest problems of social media for individuals and society? One bad thing for social media is online predators that target pacific people. Hackers can get your personal information real easy; your life isn’t private on the internet. Having online fraud, identity theft, and phishing.

4. How have modern social media sites affected commerce? Include positive and negative examples in your answer. Millions of people use the internet everyday, despite knowing that transmitting any personal information online can make them vulnerable to online fraud. A positive aspect of this is that you can sit at home and do all your shopping and paying bills in your comfort of own home with the hassle of being in long lines and dealing with people..

5. How has the Internet changed the way many Americans consume information? Explain the importance and value of the availability of information on the Internet. The internet has put Americans at a lazy point. There is no need for going to the library, looking up in books, purchasing books. All you have to do anymore is type what you are looking for and it brings up sites. Not all the information found on the internet can be true. You have to watch out for false sites. The internet opens the doors for you to communicate all over the world and it has also enhanced security and safety features with our home, and all other electronic devices.

6. How might you determine if information found online is trustworthy? Describe credibility issues with information found on the Internet. By finding more than one source to use and check those sources out. Not all websites are being monitored and this makes it hard to know if it is the truth or biased.

7. In what ways have politicians used the Internet in campaigning and in staying in touch with constituents? What is the overall effect of the Internet on politics? They use social networking applications like face book, MySpace and twitter; because millions of people use those sites everyday and that is a way they can reach out for the campaigns. They can post pictures, and information pertaining to them and being able to communicate by chat.

8. Newspapers, once available only in print, have evolved into 24-hour multimedia operations. In addition to newspapers, briefly describe the evolution of movies, television, Internet, books and magazines, and media companies throughout the last century. The evolution of television it went from black and white to color to led to 3d. Internet has expanded with many many sites, faster speed, and easy accessible. Books and Magazines are being printed everyday and has a large variety to choose from on what you like.

9. What is media convergence? Provide an example of media convergence and explain the media elements that are being combined. Explain how the combination of media elements in your example may be useful and to whom. Media coverage is tendency for different technological systems to evolve towards performing similar tasks. An example of media convergence is news on tv. It gives you information on what is going on in your area, they cover all the top stories. You can also look on the internet for local news and coverage of your area. It benefits everyone in that certain area that they cover and gives them updates.

10. Explain how music and culture influence one another. Provide an example of a song or album that affected culture. Provide examples of songs with cultural references. It has an immense impact on our culture. The music that helps shape our identities and comfort us during the transition from childhood to adulthood resonates throughout our lives and it often stirs debate among parents and teenagers, teachers, and students, and politicians and performers, many times leading to social change.
