Columbian American Exchange Reflection
The Columbian American exchange was a monumental turning point in time and I feel like the idea of this project was better than the actual outcome for my group. Our group contact was very helpful and I like how we were able to spend quite a bit of time making sure we had everything organized. Recording our process and next steps made the whole project move along as smooth as possible. Even though our contract stated that we would do what was assigned and meet deadlines there was a member that consistently missed meetings and failed to complete work outside of class. This member ended up weighing down the group as a whole and made everything more difficult. We were stressed to finish on time without them helping out. The person also did not tell us why they were not contributing at all outside of school and very little inside of school. This was concerning because I’ve worked with them in the past and they are usually very timely and productive. …show more content…
Having to think about where the events fell on the timeline and how we could incorporate certain aspects of the trade into it proved to be much more challenging than I thought. I didn’t do the research before well so my understanding was skewed and I had to go back and reread the articles. Once I started to retain the information constructing the timeline was less stressful. I liked that we could make some of the cards fun and add our own ideas to them- for example on the alternate sides of linchpins we were able to come up with alternate scenarios. I feel that this project was successful in teaching us about the Columbian American exchange and other events that lead up to it. I feel confident in my knowledge of the content and I know some of my peers feel the same. Overall we enjoyed this project and would recommend doing it again in the

one of the ways the printing press changed human communication was writers and explorers from across the world could now share new discoveries and prints. Document 6 is a good example of how it changed communication and exploration; it shows a letter Christopher Columbus sent describing that he had found new islands. After sending that letter, it was sent to Barcelona, Valladolid, Rome, Florence, Paris, and many other places around the world. This made many explorers decide to set sail to make new discoveries because they knew there was more land to be found. In the next document there's sequential images of maps drawn after Columbus's letter, and its clear more land was being found and more detail to rivers and mountains were recorded.…

The first Europeans set out to explore the Western Hemisphere were searching for alternate water routes to Asia in order to get goods such as: spices, silks, gold, porcelain, etc. Though many explorers did not reach this goal, their journeys led to the discovery of new land in the Americas. Once the New World was founded, explorers continued to venture out and find more land. Explorations brought new products to the New World to trade with Europe, but the Columbian exchange didn’t always have the best impact, like the way it negatively affected the Native American’s way of life.…

I learned a great deal through this project. It was able to analyze the story more thoroughly and see how religion was a significant theme throughout the book. Everyone is a spiritual being that desires to have some supernatural connection and this fact was made even more clear to me through the novel. The colonizers had Catholicism which became interfused with the Peruvian culture, while the Native Indians has their own rituals and traditions.…

In 1893 the World’s Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World’s Fair, took place in Chicago, Illinois. The fair was in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the New World in 1492. The Columbian Exposition was four times larger than the previous world’s fair, and over the six months that it was open, 27 million people visited the fair. That was almost half of the US population at that time. The White City, named because most of the buildings were painted white and gleamed with electric lights, the Chicago World’s Fair was home to the first and largest Ferris wheel ever built. With over 200 buildings on the 60-acre land, 43 states and 47 countries represented, and…

Participating in this event with all of my peers allowed me to feel more connected with my community. I was able to take a break from the everyday routine of education in the classroom and apply the values I have learned to other individuals. I was assigned to work with a group of second graders with building a mission from a wide assortment of recyclables. Not being provided with ready materials, each individual of the group had his or her own idea on how to recreate each structure. Rather than allowing the disagreements to hinder our group’s achievements, I explained to the students how only teamwork will result in success. To solve their contrasting ideas, I guided the students through making compromises. With a plan of action established, we worked as a well-rounded team to efficiently complete our mission.…
