Color and Rainbow
Rainbow appears in the sky at the end of the rain. It is a long and wide band of seven colours. It forms a semicircle going from one end of the earth to the other. Scientists say that when sunlight passes through a thin medium to a denser medium, all the seven colours which are present in the white light form a semi-circular rainbow. The seven colours are violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. People believe that if a rainbow appears after the rain, it is an indication that there will be no more rains. In Hindi, rainbow is called 'Indra Dhanush' which means the Bow of Lord Indra. According to Hindu mythology Lord Indra is the god of rain. The rainbow looks miraculously beautiful. Its sight is very soothing to the eye. Small children get very excited when they see a rainbow.Have you ever wondered if there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow? Maybe you have or maybe you've even tried to find it. In this article you will find out how rainbows are formed, the colors in a rainbow, and other interesting facts about rainbows. First of all a rainbow is a curve of colored light which is seen in the sky. Rainbows can be seen in moonlight or in artificial light. They are caused by the sun shining through tiny drops of water in the air. A rainbow's brightness depends on how large the drops are. The larger the drops are the brighter the rainbow will be. Many people think that a rainbow is only made of six colors, but it is really make of seven. The colors in order are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. A primary rainbow is a rainbow with red on the outside and violet on the inside. The largest rainbow visible to observers on land is a semicircle, but many times you can only see half of a semicircle. If you were in a plane or helicopter you might be able to see a full circle rainbow. You may or may not believe there is gold at the end of a rainbow, but the beauty itself is worth alot. Have you ever wondered why we see the grass green or the ocean blue ?. Liquid water absorbs short wavelength light (UV), long wavelengths and infrared light. Each color has a different wavelength, so it is refracted at a slightly different angle, resulting in dispersion. Does Earth Have Seasons

Light from the Sun looks white, but it is actually composed of every color of the rainbow. When white light shines through a prism, the light is separated into all of its colors. Light energy travels in waves, much like energy travels through the ocean. Some light travels as short and choppy waves, whereas other light travels in long and lazy waves. In the light spectrum, blue waves are much shorter than red waves. Light travels in a straight line unless something gets in the way and does one of three things: reflect it, bend it, or scatter it. As the white light from the Sun reaches our atmosphere, it gets scattered by all of the gases and particles in the air. Since blue waves are shorter and smaller than other colors, they get scattered in all directions by the tiny molecules of air in the atmosphere. This scattering of blue waves is why we see a blue sky most of the time. As we look closer to the horizon, the sky fades to lighter blue or white. This is because those light waves have been scattered and re-scattered numerous times in all directions, which dilutes the amount of blue light waves we see. The surface of the Earth has also scattered and reflected the light waves, mixing the colors back together creating more white light instead of blue. As the Sun sets and gets lower in the sky, the light waves from it have to pass through more of the atmosphere to reach our eyes. This means that even more…

This poem, written by Les Murray, reflects upon all aspects of the human condition, from the fear of change to the need for conformity, uncovering the ultimate truth of the universal desire to belong. Set in a society which significantly resembles today’s world, where feelings and emotions are kept hidden and people are caught up in their busy lives, it explores the realms of acceptance and the ways in which societal norms shape a sense of self. Although not quite an easy read, with obscure meanings, the poem is capable of touching many hearts and evoking self-realisation.…
