college essay C 2014 UTSA
September 18, 2014 When asked about my life time goals and where I see myself either five years or twenty years into the future, that is a question that seems almost impossible to answer. As a teenager, I have some idea as to what I would like to do with my future, and I would say that it’s loosely based on the life I have today. Thankfully I’ve had the opportunity to attend a school that not only prepares me for what college and life after high school may be like; but also has given me the tools necessary to be able to function in a teambuilding atmosphere. After all, isn’t that the first question an employee would ask in a job interview? I have always felt that discipline is the substance that makes a person achieve their goals in everyday life. In my family I am the daughter and granddaughter of the military; as such, I have grown up around the values of family and country. While in high school, I too was part of the family tradition when I was briefly in ROTC. The values that I learned at home were applicable to the lessons that I was exposed to in ROTC. Sadly I quickly found out that the possibility of a military life might not be for me; however the team building aspects that I learned from that experience I was able to apply in my everyday educational life. With that being said, I can honestly say that my future, in whatever field I choose, will not be as difficult to attain as it is for some. The cliché that many often say for college intern papers is this or that person wants to save or change the world. Personally I don’t want to repeat the same cliché; I want to make the world that much easier to live in by giving the gift of entertaining education. To answer the initial question of what are or what will be my lifetime goals; my intentions are to develop media (games or video) that can educate children of pre-school age to adults that may suffer with illiteracy. This is not the type future job that one would expect a soon to be high school graduate to say, but as a person who is fond of the arts and media, I would like to put my talents toward the ultimate greater good.
By using my gifts of love for the arts, in all its sorts I feel that my future will have the combination of educational software and the world of art combined. “All media exist to invest our lives with artificial perceptions and arbitrary values.” Marshall McLuhan. Whereas one would think this a negative quote, I see it as something quite real. Our perception of the media, especially social media, is that it gives us values that go against what we have learned in the past. My goal would be to educate those that want to learn without the brainwashing. The ideas I have now, would be to somehow use art and technology in a positive way so that the next generation of children and even adults will be able to receive some educational value in a way that is entertaining. As I said before I don’t want to change or save the world; I want a child of five years old to have the capability to enter kindergarten with some advantage. I would like to see an adult man or woman who has spent most of their life without being able to read a simple book, have the chance to read the classics. This is how I would like to impact the future; to give the truest gift of all, the ability to function in everyday life, no matter the age. In closing my feeling is that in my own way I have answered the question put before me; which in essence is basically asking about my future. It’s not at all generic which it could of been, but honest and truthful. The skills I have acquired while attending an early college High school will benefit me because I will be one step ahead of the game. In short, my future in this time seems to be rather bright and its due in part thanks to my family, teachers, but mostly due to me. I have and will take what I’ve learned, both in my home and educational environment and go on to create something that will benefit us all.

Before I start talking about what I want in the far future I need to set short term goals before long term. Such as graduating from Ramona High School. Besides my academic goals, I have other goals before finishing high school. An example is finishing with a winning record on the football team I’m playing on. “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” Although leaders and innovators might propose or institute change, they are not the ones who make it actually happen. It’s the people they lead and influence that actually make change happen. We work as teams to create policies and laws that are in the general public’s best interest, so why not work as a unit to rid the world of health disparities and inequalities. There are over 7 billion individuals in the world today, so it doesn’t make sense to focus on one individual at a time. It would be more productive and beneficial to focus on a group, community, or environment. Individual awareness and behavior are important, but if the goal is to initiate a positive change in the field of health behavior, the focus has to be on creating healthy supportive environments.…

My academic goal management plan that I set for my English 111 class has been a benefit for my grade and myself. Before I set the goal of pushing out an A for English 111, I had a C in the class. I still do not have an A yet I have a B, but it is progress. I also set a goal that requires me to accomplish a 4.00 “GPA” by the end of the semester. I am not there yet, but I am getting close as I approach the end of the semester. Goal setting has impacted my English grade, because it gave me a sense of urgency. Goal setting kept me focus on the big picture, which was to complete this semester, ending with all A’s. Goal setting also steered me down the rights paths; like a “GPS” system, it made sure that I did not…
