Courage
Courage means to overcome fear and failure, being inspired to take that next step even if you are afraid. Courage means to push forward even when you feel like you are being held back by a brick wall. This is a description of Luther Gibbs. He had it hard growing up and became an addict at a very young age. He was and is a strict parent but could also make you laugh your head off with one of his farfetched stories of how he met my mom. We would ask him to tell the stories over and over because they were funny and he always changed something in them so you didn’t know what was coming next. Imagination, humor and the ability to make others laugh without trying, Luther Gibbs, the strictest comedian you'll ever meet. He has been an addict all of my life. In and out of rehabs, clean off and on but has always been a father none the less. He was able to overcome addiction which was something I was unable to understand for a longtime and just assumed that we did not matter to him, but only when he was using. As time went on and e better understating of addiction developed and it’s relation to why people used a different perspective and outlook was formed. He has been clean for many, many years now and is a deacon in church. He was diagnosed with an illness that for most people would cause them to shut down and shut everyone out. He did take it hard but he prayed his way through and remains positive. He always has something funny to say or a story to tell his grandkids. When Luther and his wife renewed their vows a few years ago one of his stories was shared at the ceremony. The story of how he met his wife while saving her from a stagecoach being robbed by Indians. He always has a story to tell to make you laugh and projects a positive attitude, even when he isn’t feeling well or in the best
