On October 05, 2015 an article was published by Jason Kravarik and Sara Sidner called “Oregon College Shooting Survivor pretended to be dead during rampage”. This article describe how the victim survived the massacre that occurred at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. Tracy Heu attended her writing class as usual; however, on a Thursday afternoon a 26 year old man name Chris Harper- Mercer had came into her class an open fire, killed a total of nine people. " Taking a bullet in her hand and suffering two broken bones, Heu lay on the ground covered in the blood from a student next to her who have been shot in the head." By covering up with blood Heu was able to avoided the shooter and survived.…
With recent events such as the shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, there has been an increased focus on the role of EMS providers in an active shooter situation. Should EMS wait until the scene is deemed "safe" by law enforcement, or should providers be expected to enter a potentially dangerous scene where the shooter may still be active? It is an issue that has been debated on public forums all over the internet, with plenty of people of both sides of the argument. And while both sides of the argument have merits, I believe there is a solution that may allow victims of a shooting to receive quick and effective medical care without compromising the safety of those who provide it.…
What really happened at Kent State on May 4, 1970 why did it happen, what was the after match of the shooting?…
During the spring of 2007 on the Virginia Polytech Institute campus, a student named Seung-Hui Cho had shot 2 students in a resident hall before entering classrooms and shooting 32 other students and professors (Glum). This event had created a call for necessities in protecting not only the Virginia Tech school but all large campuses in America. Director of Virginia’s 32 National Campus Safety Initiative S. Daniel Carter stated, “That one incident sort of crystallized campus safety in people’s minds as a very, very serious issue.” (Glum). The school itself had warning signs before the incident that also brought into questions how the situation could’ve been different and how potentional threats need be…
In April 2007, a mass shooting at Virginia Tech occurred. At the time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in American history. The shooter, Seung-Hui Cho, opened fire into classrooms that morning, killing 32 before taking his own life (Virginia Tech Review Panel, 2007). Sadly, this tragedy is just one incident in a string of many mass shootings in the United States. That is why taking steps to prevent these kinds of shootings is of utmost importance.…

The motivation that backs a person to commit a mass shooting has peaked the minds of many over the years. Maybe none quite as much as the shooting that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, December 14th 2012. Adam Lanza decided to end the lives of twenty six innocent women and children, and then turned the gun on himself. There is no excuse for something so disturbing as this crime, but there are explanations for why something like this may happen. In Lanza’s case there were so many big changes that were happening in his life. There was also numerous warning signs that were overlooked that could have potentially ceased this tragedy from occurring. Lanza also suffered from Asperger’s syndrome, anorexia, and depression that all…

The documentary “Bowling for Columbine” is an award-winning documentary directed by well-known filmmaker Michael Moore. The film won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, as well as an Independent Spirit Award, a Cesar Award and many others. This bold movie criticizes America’s large number of gun related deaths annually compared to other countries around the world. He discusses why America seems to have such a problem with violence and how it has led to tragedy’s involving firearms like the imfamous shooting at Columbine high school in Columbine, Colorado. Since the Columbine shooting in 1999 there have been other school shootings that seem to closely resemble it, such as the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting and the recent 2012 Sandy Hook…
20 year old Male Adam Peter Lanza fatally shot twenty children and six adult staff members in a mass murder at the Sandy Hook Elementary school in the village of Sandy Hook in Newton, Connecticut. On my quest to look up information on this perpetrator Adam Peter Lanza - (April 22, 1992- December 14,2012) it is stated on wikipedia .com that Adam and his mother Nancy Lanza age 52, lived in sandy Hook, 5miles (8km) from the Elementary school. Adam did not have any criminal background with the police and he also attended sandy hook for a brief time back in his day, but he mostly attended St. Rose Catholic school in Newtown, and then attended Newtown High…
Many people treat stress differently and students under stress can cause unnecessary accidents, this can increase if guns on campus are allowed. If guns are on campus suicide rates raise up to 85% as posted on smartgunlaws.org. Therefore to avoid it all, guns should not be allowed because people might misuse them. There has been many cases on the news of students going on a killing spree because they aren't mentally healthy. Statistics shown that students between 18-25 have high risk of serious mental illness. Exams after exams, homework on top of homework then, some deal with personal issues like a relationship or work which means colleges students are more likely to have lots of stress. Colleges and universities do not know their students personally. Therefore guns should not be allowed in the exception of security guards to protect the…
With the proper training and education on firearms, students and professors would have the ability to neutralize a potential threat and have the ability to protect themselves and those around them. Understanding that it is the duty of law enforcement to protect all of our citizens, it has become very clear that they can not be everywhere and response time to a life threatening situation is not always ideal. Many argue that students and professors on college campuses should maintain focus on education and that allowing firearms on campuses may cause distractions.…
The sound of a gunshot, complimented by screams, everyone’s nightmare. To think this could be avoided is absurd, or is it? Millions of Americans ponder this thought; yet, no official outcome has been ratified. To come to a proper mutual agreement, time is no longer an obstacle. We as the people, have statistics of pro guns vs against guns to show the proper choice in each scenario. Some people believe guns on campus will cause an array of problems; however, with proper training and discipline, safety will become a concrete practice.…
The concern for the safety of your child in a college campus or university will most likely be your number one priority. In the case that you do not have a child and you are that person in the university, you might always want to watch your back. According to a “statistical analysis of more than three decades of data, in 2011 the United States entered a new period in which mass shootings are occurring more frequently.” (Cohen) Now off course, the research that has been done by Cohen includes mass shootings from ages varying from six to twenty-one years old although another article by the “EverytownResearch.org” website reveals how out of all of the school mass shootings in the United States, the majority of the mass shooting incidents that have happened in different colleges or universities. Because younger Ed campuses like elementary, middle and high schools are particularly small in comparison to the majority of all college campuses and universities, it is easier for security guards including school police to be in most places or get to a dangerous situation faster than in a higher Ed campus. A university…
