College Athletes Shouldn T Get Paid
College Athletes Shouldn’t Be Compensated Some people, like one of our classmates named Isaac Harris, believe that college athletes should get paid. That isn’t how it should be, though. College athletes should not receive compensation anytime soon because they already get paid, every college students will want compensation, and college athletes simply get to live the dream. First off, college athletes already get paid. They get paid in a way that many others wish they could. They get paid with something that is worth more than any dollar value. An education, and a cheap one at that. Think of the college athletes scholarships as a contract. The school, and NCAA for that matter, pays the athletes with a free education instead of money in return for them playing a sport. Once accepting the scholarship, they understand that they’re payment is a free education. Free tuition, …show more content…
Young kids dream about one day playing for their favorite colleges. Being starting quarterback at Alabama, or the number one basketball player on Duke. Once those kids who make it make it, they get the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only the free education, as mentioned prior, but the chance to show their skills and make it pro. Athletes shouldn’t get paid because sports are like an audition. They have to put in the hard work and get recognized, just like at a business, working your way up to corporate ladder. To add on, they get free publicity from television. Their talents are shown across the country, making it easier for pro organizations to scout them. Maybe they don’t want to go pro and are there just for the love of the game. Money would ruin that. College athletes would not try as hard if they knew that they could get paid. They would play easier so they wouldn’t get hurt and continue to collect check after check. College sports are about “The pride, and intense gratification that winning brings”

Honestly, the the pros outweigh the cons on whether or not we should pay these college athletes, they spend all their time at the college and make money for them, they deserved to be payed something, time that could be spent with friends and family, and they’re instead spending their time in the gym or on the field. The amount of income would be based on the sport, gender, skill level, and school income. A list would be made by a committee of people to rank players from the top to bottom. They would rank the top players at that school and take a percentage of the school income from that sport. That way small D1 schools aren’t forced to go bankrupt. At a major D1 college the most they could get would be $10,000. This money would not be for them becoming rich. This money would go towards paying everyday things that we would buy. Almost like a bonus at a work company. Then the rest would get a small percentage of the total income. This is why I think we should pay college…

We often look at college athletes as miniature stars. The question is, why should student’s athlete get a paycheck for playing amateur level sports? Athletes complain about how they do not get enough for playing a sport. They are forgetting that they are being rewarded with a half or full scholarship. The main goal for these athletes is being academically successful. Not who has the best jump shot or who fumbled a ball, that does not matter. The essence of playing college level has been taken out of place, now replaced with the mindsets of professional athletes. Did they forget? You are not professionals. The love of the game has been through extortion for the love of money. Paying college athletes will lead the students astray from what they attended the institution to accomplish in the first place, that is, to earn a degree, not to gain a compensation.…

Another problem is that even though student athletes are big part of campus life, the NCAA has created a monster that makes athletes try to focus more on their skill at their sport than trying to improve their education. In recent years, colleges throughout the nation have come across plenty of controversy concerning the idea of whether or not athletes should be paid to play sports in college. To this day the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) deems this a violation of their rules, and that is no matter what the amateur status of the players who make college athletics a billion-dollar business is not going to change (“Associated Press”, 2013). Even though the issue is constantly being debated and to some the answer remains "up in the air" still to this day (Dabad, n.d.), I think the answer is quite simple on why college athletes shouldn’t be paid.…

Sure student athletes get free things like free tuition, board, room fees, and food, but paying players would give them money for things like laundry, late night snacks, food for restaurants when on the road, and just different things.
