College Admissions Essay: Why I Want To Attend College

I come from a family of six with only one parent who works as a painter. His income is just enough to pay for our food, bills, rent, and personal needs. Hence, I am aware that my parents won’t have enough to pay for my tuition or any expenses in college. Considering attending Houston Baptist University, a private college, I know it will be very expensive. For this reason I think about and stress over about how I will cover payments for college repeatedly. Out of all the reasons I wouldn’t be able to attend college, I don’t want money to be the reason why I won’t be able to pursue my degree. I am the second oldest of four but my older brother will not have the opportunity to go to college. This means I will be the first in my family to attend the university, making me a first-generation student. My parents did not finish school and did not go to college, they didn’t have the opportunity to get a good education and thus I’ve learned to appreciate and value my education. I want to follow my passion so I can pursue a career that I am passionate about, something my parents did not have a chance to follow. The money that my step-father earns isn’t enough to cover my tuition or books for college. My parents don’t have any other way to pay it because it all goes into something that my family needs. For example, my mom sends my grandparents money each month to pay for expenses since they can’t work for a living. My grandma is at a high risk of heart disease and needs money to pay for doctor appointments, check-ups, medical treatments and medicines.
