College Admissions Essay: Why I Volunteer At My School
I am a very involved student, I attend many things inside and outside of school. I have been in our school’s WEB, or where everyone belongs, class, which is similar to ASB. I am in my school’s Drama Class and love being involved in the plays and productions. Along with both of those, I am in the California Junior Scholarship Federation and hold a position in office. I love being in CJSF because I get to help my community and those in need by doing service hours, my favorite places to volunteer are the SPCA, The Remington, and help serve food to the homeless on holidays. The last club/class I am currently in is Yearbook, this is my second year in this class and I love it especially because this year I hold a position in office. I am a dancer and competitive cheerleader along with playing competitive volleyball and basketball. I have kept straight A’s my whole life and am currently Valedictorian for having all A’s throughout my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade year at Pioneer Middle School. I love challenges and tend to do well with them, on way this is shown is by being in Accelerated Math, learning 9th grade math can be a bit of a challenge but I take it on with a smile and have still managed to keep an A in that class, even getting an A+. …show more content…
I am a responsible and motivated person, I feel I would bring many new ideas and a lot of experience to the table. I am very happy to have the opportunity to keep HWHS ASB going in a productive, positive, and spirited direction. I hope to make our class vivacious and full of energy as well as organized and inspirational. I want this to be the best Freshman Class to go through Hanford West. I can greatly contribute to the ASB Freshman Officers with my experience, positive attitude, and ability to get along and work well with

When I think about community service, the feelings I recall are pleasant, yet unexpected. I was fortunate enough to get the chance to work for my mother helping transport the elderly in a nursing home. Going into the experience, I honestly expected boredom and cranky, lonely grandparents. Coming out of it, though, I found myself with a newly gained insight and knowledge I never expected. Truthfully, I was landed with the job on complete accident. An employee scheduled to work for my mom had an emergency, and thus could not come in for the job. Because it happened last minute, and I was looking at a work-free summer, I was recruited. Initially, I was only asked to stay a couple weeks. Soon, though, I found myself eagerly going to work and looking forward to my next day. I learned vast amounts of information I knew I definitely could not learn in school. I continued on, taking the official shift of the employee who couldn't make it. The people I helped told me stories of their youth and teenage years, of life lessons they learned, and provided advice for my future. I was able to bridge the gap between generations I had thought previously impossible. It was fascinating and intriguing, and I knew it would have a lasting effect on me. I think back and reflect, to the quarterback who was now in a wheelchair, to the class valedictorian who now could barely recognize her family, and wonder what could be done. I want to be able to help more as I grow, regardless of the career I choose. I know for a fact that I will incorporate my time with the elderly into my future, and hope that I can help as much as possible.…

From there, I hope to study to be accepted into medical school and specialize in pediatrics. When preparing for medical school, the advice one hears are to become a well-rounded student. Through my DECA experiences I have been able to develop leadership skills that will help me thrive in my future. Over the three years I have been involved, I have stepped out my comfort zone and made a difference in my local DECA chapter, community, and my future. Now taking the responsibility of being a DECA officer, as the chapter president, has allowed me to continue to grow and develop my leadership, communication, and social skills. Working with the Milan DECA Chapter members has proven how difficult and enjoyable being a leader is. At times leading so many events can be stressful; however, the completion of the events pushes me further. In order to reach the goal of becoming ‘well-rounded’, I used DECA skills to organize my time to join other extracurriculars within my community. Along with DECA, I participate in 4-H which is a non-profit organization in counties all across the nation that prepares youth to make a positive impact on their communities. Furthermore, I lead my 4-H club in a Relay For Life team through the American Cancer Society. Additionally, I am a dedicated musician, drum major, and the first Milan High School Flute Choir Director. I am an active participant in the peer education program at Milan High School. I am so thankful for the opportunities to be a leader within my class, school, community, county, and…

At a service academy, the people that attend are there to get an education and train to be an officer in the military. They are there to gain valuable life and military skills. In my opinion, that is more appealing than any college. I want to surround myself with people that have the same goals and aspirations as me, and I believe that the Academy can provide that. During the week that I was at the Air Force summer seminar, I learned about life at the Academy. I knew going into that week, that I would either love it or hate it. Throughout the week I spent time doing physical training, going to classes, and learning about life at the Academy. After that week, I knew I wanted to attend the Air Force Academy. I knew I belonged. I want to attend…

As a teenager not many held much hope for my future. I was constantly in trouble cutting school, fighting, drinking alcohol and just had an outright horrible attitude towards anyone that attempted to set me straight. There were many reasons behind my anger that this paper doesn’t warrant going very deep into. I knew right from wrong and I also knew that I wasn’t a “bad” person. That being said, I found myself suspended from school for 20 days after a fairly brutal fight. Being that my suspension was so long I was required to attend the Option Center in Lawrenceville for my core classes.…

For years, I have always focused my energy and time into studying and being successful for my future. I never participated in any activities in or outside of school. I would sometimes help my mom take care of the housework because they have to work hard to keep the house financially stable. Maintaining a 3.7 or higher GPA throughout my middle and high school years, I was very happy with my academic accomplishments. In my sophomore year, my vice-principal and counselor encouraged me to join an after-school activity so that I would be qualify to be a member of the National Honor Society during my junior year. I gave a lot of thought to this during sophomore year, and I decided that I should at least try one sport. I joined the softball team, but because of my lack of skills, I was cut from the team. However, I did not give up because my motto is "Once you give up, you give up everything including life." I always go by this simple principle and this is what keeps me going on even today.…
