College Admissions Essay: What Is Love?
Love is not just a verb
I believe that love is more than just a word, I believe that love is what makes the world go round and is the driving force behind everything, I believe that love is the thing that can make any human happy, but at the same time can be the source of their insanity. One thing i've been trying to figure out is what drives a person to be sad or happy? I've always thought happiness is what you make it out to be, and is different for every single person, but one thing i'm almost positive about, is that we all find happiness in love. Ever since I was a kid, i've always thought that getting married to the person of your dreams was the ultimate life goal, and to me, still is the ultimate life goal. Recently i've met a girl, she's the most amazing woman i've ever met, and ever will meet. She is

I had no other thought, no plan for what I was gonna do after my time is up either, but she has changed my thoughts completely. I actually want to go to college, get a degree, make good money and start a family. I've always wanted a son and daughter to care for and see grow up, but thought I would never get to it from being deployed overseas. This woman has totally changed my views and make me motivated to good in school, make it to college and get married to her, my highschool sweetheart. My life has never had much meaning, I was gonna take the bad route, leading to eventual extreme depression and being broke, but now i'm motivated to get an education and live the rest of my life with my one and only love. Before her, my life was just a continuous cycle of waking up, going to school, practicing, and then going to sleep, Now I have a real reason and motivation to wake up and enjoy life. This is why love is not just a verb, but also an escape from reality, it's pure happiness and there's nothing better than being told “I love you” . Everyday I thank the world for having such an amazing human on it, and for the rest of my life I plan on

What is Love? Does anyone really know the meaning of the word? Does it have a different meaning to different people? In Kipnis’s essay “Love Labors”, Laura Kipnis touches on many different aspects of love. This is a touchy subject simply because love brings out many different opinions and beliefs. Kipnis argues over the fact that in order to have a good relationship and love someone people have to be able to meet certain requirements, which are mutuality, communication, and advanced intimacy.…

A couple of days ago, I was watching a movie where an English teacher asks her students to discuss ‘what is love’. Majority of the class did not know how to respond. At first, I found this odd considering that love is a universally understood emotion that can be felt by most human beings. We express the emotion on a daily basis, whether it be towards our family, friends, or significant others. However, upon some introspection, I realized that it is difficult to come up with a solid definition for it because of its subjective nature. Love exists in many different forms and holds different meanings for different people.…

Love has different meanings to different people. True love is not based on how good looking a person is. I think true love should be about how much you care about a person and how much you guys have in common. For example in the article “ Is There Live at First Sight” author Elliot Cohen stated that love should have common ground. “ Is he articulate? Does the tone of his voice resonate well with you? Are her morals , as expressed ,consistent with your own”(Cohen5). True love should have trust and commitment. True love is when you meet someone and say this is the person that I want to be with in my life. It’s not when you see someone and think they are good looking and want to be with them. Love should be when you love someone because of their personality and what kind of person they are.…

Hey Isac, it is very true in todays age that we use pleasure to mimic and create “happiness”, but is it the same level as love? I believe that happiness is true and you only really feel happiness if its something you love. Pleasure is something that you can buy and it only brings temporary feeling. The object that is bought will lose its pleasurable feeling and later only be a piece of trash. I really enjoyed reading your post and having a different perspective on happiness vs…

What is the definition of love? That is a question many people have a different answer to. To me, love is not bound by a singular definition, for I feel that there are many types of love. There is a love felt for family, a great love that gives you strength and peace, that lets you feel protected. There is a love felt for nature, and how its' breathtaking beauty humbles you and makes you feel small in this spectacular world of ours, there is love for pets, that bonds you to them, and them to you. The most pleasurable love is a love of hobbies, a love of things that make you smile and enjoy life. But, when someone says "love", none of those seem to come to mind, for the love that is loudest and most persistent is the love for other humans. It is a love that frightens humans, that makes us nervous and yet hopeful, that makes us scared that we will never find the true definition of love in our short lifetime, and that makes us happiest and most content when we do find it. A love that is told in stories and tales, passed from generation to generation, a love between one person and another, that makes the days brighter and fills your heart with warmth and joy.…

The intensity of our feelings when in love is caused by a psychological manifestation of a few emotions. One of them being fear. To philosophers, individuals suffer most through this emotion and are pretty much governed by it. Some people fear that when they fall out of love, they might end up lonely in life and start losing faith because of experiences throughout their lives. This leads to people feeling that have to find a mate. Most people find marriage to be a perfect picture of happiness; where the couple fall in love with each other and create the perfect home together and etc. People feel that they have no choice but to be in love, for the sake of leading a happy life.…

What is love? Love is something very important to each and every human being. Each and every human being have their own definition of what love is, however to me, love is a force of nature, something we cannot avoid. Love is inherently free, it cannot be bought, sold or even traded. No matter how much we try, we cannot buy true love. Many people have different conceptions of what love is, some are looking for true love, looking for someone they can rely on and someone they can spend the rest of their life with. But nowadays, more and more youngsters are simply looking for something they can have fun with.…

Love is an emotion with many sides, shades, and colors. The love which one feels for parents or friends is quite different from the love which one will feel for a romantic partner, but it too, is a form of love. There is also the emotion of love for things inanimate, such as the love of nature's handiwork. The kind of beauty only present in the myriad oranges of a sunset or the jovial ripples of a pond.…

There are plenty of fish in the deep blue sea, but there is only one which is right for you. “A relationship takes work, understanding, compromises, flexibility, forgiveness, good communication and much more” (Ariala) for it to really work. Time is endlessly spent doing just the right things to guide it in, but in the end, is it really worth all the trouble? Studies show that love is one main cause of mental stress, so do you really want to go around with that? Some say that love is a simple and happy feeling, while others say that “[l]ove is ecstasy and torment, freedom and slavery” (Gray). When people encounter the two most common types of struggles found in love, one may argue that it indeed is ecstasy, torment, freedom, and slavery. But aside from that, in the end, is love really worth the emotional and physical challenges that are presented so often?…

“What is love? Baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, no more.”(by Haddaway) This is one of the most known song choruses that ask the question, “What is love?” When people think of love, they think of having a nervous feeling because they are attracted to a specific person. My definition of love is, A chemical reaction in the brain that causes a person’s hormones to react because they want to mate. A person likes another person, because humans are still considered animals/mammals and want to pass on genes. This is my definition of love, but the dictionary definition is, “ A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep personal affection.” Three main examples are romantic love, family love and friendly love.…

Love is a beautiful thing. It makes people happy. It can change a person, and show someone things that they never knew about themselves. It lifts one up, knowing there is always someone who will stand by their side through anything. It brings people together, and makes the world a better place. Some people may disagree; they might think love is just a fantasy. Either way, it is a fantasy that everyone deserves to dream of and experience in all its glory, whether straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. However, not all people are so accepting of love when it is not in the form that they are familiar with, or is not demonstrated in ways that they think are proper. This can be easily seen in society’s treatment of non-heterosexuals, especially in the cases of marriage laws, bullying by teens and young adults, and general homophobic attitudes in our culture. It is important that these situations be changed so that each and every person has the same rights and is not harshly and wrongly judged because of the sex of the person that they love.…
