College Admissions Essay: Moving To College
Change is a fussy thing in the stomach that can bring tears to the eyes, sweat to the palms, and jitters to the feet. It can also bring about laughter in the heart, a pounding in the chest, and a strange desire to open a door so often overlooked or ignored. See, change is scary; everyone knows that, but also necessary. Every single second births new ideas and concepts that were only a dream before, so seemingly far away from reality. My whole life has been shaped by change; moving to America, finding passion in a new subject, and stepping onto the stage for the very first time. Each time change occurs, knowledge is gained and experience is embraced. I am looking to further my journey and learn from new environments that I am so eager to immerse …show more content…
Petersburg College, a community college (now state) nearby my neighborhood. I thought it was too good of an opportunity not to apply, and I was accepted into the program for my Senior year along with a few of my friends. Learning in college was a lot different than high school, but all of my professors were great at making sure all students understood curriculum and did what they came there to do-learn. After walking the stage at Raymond James Stadium in my sparkling pointed-toe pumps and my high school diploma in my hand, I wasn’t struck immediately with a scholarly plan or a set of assembly directions on how to put my life together so I could get into the college I was destined for. No, instead I had a Cheesecake Factory dinner awaiting me, which I cannot complain about, but alas I was still unsure on what I even wanted to study. I decided to stay at SPC another year, and I am going to graduate with my AA at the end of next Spring. My learning at St. Petersburg College has been a great experience that I only have good to say about, but I think it is time for me to put on my sparkly pumps and walk my way to another

Reflecting back onto my senior year; my father had recently gotten a job promotion, my sister was attending Duke University, and I established relationships with my animals. The topic I choose for my personal essay to send to college was not hard to figure out. My first horse was brought to me at 4 months old, where she strode away from human contact. After she gained trust, she grew to become wild and engaged in attention. Visitors would stop by her pasture to watch her prance and buck through the hills of the forest. Her personality reflected my own. Moving to North Carolina helped me create an identity for myself, while traveling to Cuba before starting college helped me gain confidence with…

My most prized possession is my mental stability and ethical background that I have acquired from my southern upbringing. Growing up in a rural community in the south and being reared by elderly parents allowed my seeds of character and respect to be nurtured by an entire village of people who saw my potential and wanted to see me succeed and thus pushed and prayed for my wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. As a child, series of unique experiences of being able to develop intimate and loving relationships with almost everyone in my community made me appreciate the influence of everyone on my life. It was not long before I realized that no matter how old or young, rich or poor, or educated a person was, everyone contributed to humanity’s niche…

The education I have received from my parents has been fundamental in my personal development. “I will give my best and I will not accept less than that” that was how my father made me start my day. Since I was little my parents erased the words “ I can not” and “I do not know” from my vocabulary. They taught me that I had to face my responsibilities and problems no matter what, for this reason, I was astonished when we moved to Texas two years ago and they told me that I could not be in 11th grade.…

The single most impactful experience in my life is attending Ventura Community College. Nothing has hurt me more. In high school I had taken AP and IB classes and had finished within the top ten percent of my class but I had no idea what I wanted to do. I applied to some schools that I considered to be mediocre so that I could continue swimming, but as the application deadlines ended and most of my friends were being accepted to places such as UCLA, UCSB, and even Harvard, I had realized that I wanted a greater challenge and possibly a greater reward. It was too late, I was going to community college.…

When Cayli, my daughter, started kindergarten I started talking to her about going to college and how it was the most important thing she could do for herself. In turn she would ask me what kind of degree did I get and I would look at her and tell her that I did not go to college and this is why I wanted her to so she would not have to live paycheck to paycheck like her father and I did. After awhile, I started to feel like a hypocrite every time I would insist she went to college and not going wasn't an option. I knew in that instance that I had to go back and get my own college degree.…

I come from a family of six with only one parent who works as a painter. His income is just enough to pay for our food, bills, rent, and personal needs. Hence, I am aware that my parents won’t have enough to pay for my tuition or any expenses in college. Considering attending Houston Baptist University, a private college, I know it will be very expensive. For this reason I think about and stress over about how I will cover payments for college repeatedly. Out of all the reasons I wouldn’t be able to attend college, I don’t want money to be the reason why I won’t be able to pursue my degree.…

When my expulsion appeal failed, I felt like my life was over. Having grown up in a strict Christian family that migrated to The United States from Ukraine, a heavy emphasis was always placed on education. My mom, a single mother, would always tell me how lucky I am to be in The United States and how I can do anything I could possibly want in this country as long as I work hard for it. I took that half-heartedly. While I was always proud of my grades and the work I always put into school, I was a kid that behaved badly and disrespected everyone. However, everything went to a new level in 6th grade when I got expelled from school.…
