College Admissions Essay: A Career In The Fashion Industry
I am the perfect candidate for the Fashion Institute of technology because I am inquisitive; I am always craving more knowledge no matter what the topic - I am a leader, I enjoy coming up with fresh, new ideas and I am an intensely passionate person. Though, unlike many other FIT applicants, I haven’t always had a “passion for fashion”. Growing up, I wanted to be an Architectural engineer. It wasn’t until someone close to me gave me my first Michael Kors handbag my 8th grade year that I began to develop the passion I have now. Handling this bag was when realized my obsession with high-end fashion was only beginning. I was amazed at the production work put into making the merchandise. Of course the beauty of fashion is interesting, but what …show more content…
My junior year was spent tutoring a number of kids in 2nd and 3rd grade at my local elementary school every Monday. I helped them improve their reading, test taking strategies and led them to achieve high scores on standardized tests that they had never reached before! I also joined my schools Ski Club, which was very unlike me considering that I hated cold weather and had never touched a pair of skis or a snowboard in my life. I was determined to find a new potential hobby for myself, and I ended up loving it. Junior year was also the year that I decided my high school didn’t provide the right level of education for me. I was accepted to participate in a program called college credit plus during my senior year. College credit plus is a dual enrollment program where high school students can take college classes at a campus while earning high school and college credits simultaneously, for free. By the time I graduate high school, I will have already accumulated some credits for my freshman year of college.
I plan to earn my bachelor’s degree and spend all four years of my studies at the Fashion Institute of technology with a focus on Production management. My goal is to become a Production manager of a large high-end company like Balenciaga, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, etc. I have visited many other colleges and taken a look into their fashion programs however, FIT is the only school who

I was so focused on the academic aspects of school my freshman and sophomore years’ that i wasn’t active in any of my school’s clubs or activities. I finally decided to get more involved my junior year and I joined nearly every club, participated in every activity, and even went to as many sports events as I could have. I currently am a six year member of the National Beta Club and have held the positions of Vice President of Fundraising and Senior Representative throughout my high school career. Not only am I a leader in the Beta Club, but I participate in the Trailblazer leadership program with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance and my school’s freshman mentor program. I also joined the TRIO Upward Bound program whose ACT prep helped me to obtain a 22 as my highest ACT score at the time allowing me acceptance into my school’s ACT top 20 Club. Although it was hard with my many extracurricular activities I somehow still managed to finish my junior year with a 3.8…

While New York City’s zeitgeist instilled an appreciation for high-end fashion’s influence on the world’s perceptions of individuals, it was the Fashion Institute of Technology’s cutting-edge classes that turned my junior year entrepreneurial interests into a school based philanthropic business: Stuyvesant Fashion (SF) - a rapidly developed, school-wide enterprise that markets and sells exclusive student-designed clothing with profits directly transferred to a Stuyvesant fund for individual student’s needs (books, gear, fees, etc.).…

Growing up my parents would have been proud of me graduating high school alone. Since I knew that’s all they really cared about at the moment, I never gave myself a true thought on what I wanted to do or become because I was just focused on graduating and nothing else. My second year of high school is when I was told by my counselor Mrs. Davenport that I should join clubs because it would look better on my application and resume for college. College was something that I never really discussed with anyone because no one in my family talked about ever going, yet I had a feeling that Mrs. Davenport knew what she was talking about. I then decided that since I’m doing track and can handle school, why not try an academic club out. There were so many clubs I could join, but I did not know what which club I would belong to. I honestly just choice one that I thought would be a smart…

Attending a community college in the summer of my junior after receiving a deplorable grade has proved the most influential academic experience I have ever had. Before, I stood believing that college independence allows students a more fluid and easier time with challenging classes than high school students. Instead, the adults surrounding me were struggling to attend class due to financial hardships, family incidents, and too much self-reliance. I started realizing that a multitude of students, including myself, were overlooking the privilege of family and school support. I began taking advantage of office hours and peer tutoring, assuring myself an understanding of Pre-Calculus before returning to school. Following advice from classmates,…

The Early College was the push I needed to better myself as a student and as a person. In high school, I received stellar grades and test scores without trying. I never needed to study, and I did the bare minimum for a majority of my assignments. Occasionally, I would find an assignment that I loved and go way beyond the requirement. I was a teacher favorite, but I was disliked by other students because I was a bit of a show off with my intelligence. I never needed time management skills, so I never developed them. While I was received good grades, I did not improve any of my skills or abilities. This program helped me find my faults and make changes that have made a world of difference.…

I participate in the cheerleading program, the National Honors Society, I am a student council representative, I run track, and I also try to get as many volunteer hours as possible. I don’t know if I pursue the typical “high schoolers” life, but I always strive for excellence in all that I do. Going to college was always a part of the game plan. Never once was I questioning whether to go or seeking out another option for after high school. With both my parents and myself holding such high standards for me, it was a requirement to make goals in order to have something to reach for and to accomplish. I feel that since I am so involved with extracurricular activities, that it will make success more of an open opportunity for me in the future. I have learned so many life-lessons and tactics through everything I have…

I fully understand that my extracurricular activities appear to be at the absolute minimal. However, I would like to contend that this is the direct result of participating in dual enrollment while in high school. Through the High School Enrichment Program offered by State Center Community College District (SCCCD), I am endowed with the privilege to not only enroll in college courses, but also receive college credit at the same time. This is a highly rigorous program that only a limited number of students who have approval from their high school principal, guidance counselor, and parents are eligible.…

I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t completely and utterly fascinated by fashion. Fashion is academic, artistic, business oriented. I was drawn to Syracuse University because of the diversity. I’m looking for a school where I can have the freedom to do as much as I want to. I value being a well rounded person. At Syracuse, I’d be able to continue to be this person. I’m looking for a school that’ll cater to my interests, but also fulfill my academic and social desires. I have a natural curiosity, which I feel is one of my best qualities. However, in high school, it is hard to pursue the things I’m genuinely curious about, because of time and lack of opportunities--. I see college as that time to explore. I’ve always been extremely…

Fashion is really something. The industry is powerful, influencing, economic, and full of energy which is why I love it so much. I’m not saying scientists and engineers or whoever are boring or worthless either. What I’m trying to say is that I carry the same passion they do except in a different field. And there’s truly nothing wrong with that, as long as you enjoy what you do.…

    Fashion Designer Career

The marketing career I researched about is entrepreneurship in the world of fashion. My initial idea was to start a business that manufactures "affordable glamour", creates attractive and functional garment for men, women and children, and accessories according with thee latest trends through the combination of fashion, quality and price. Fashion entrepreneurs have style, but are business-minded professionals, and both of that qualities are not very common. The company would be based in a large, glamorous city like New York or Paris, for its international perspective. If you want to work in fashion entrepreneurship, you need a diploma in fashion technology and a degree in business administration. The National Institute of Fashion Technology (Delhi, India) and the National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad, India) are good fashion schools. For being able to offer glamorous and casual wear at unbeatable value, the company would be a mass market manufacturer ordering garments from factories in Asia. The company would employ in-house designers that quickly recognize trends and act making designs that look more chic, more expensive. Additionally to the design department, there would be a Marketing and Merchandising department, a Manufacturing department and Fashion coordinators. An international growing would follow if the prototype is successful. This idea has positive and negative features. Today, fashion industry has a high potential for growth, the company fits market requirement because the demand grows constantly. The fashion designer profession is one of the most sort out careers among the youths. Most of them possess a very developed sense of style. Too much offer means unemployed designers that could be successful but are just not business-minded people. We could hire that kind of people. Besides, there is an increase in quality textiles and materials for the fashion designers to work with. Nevertheless, the negative features of the fashion environment are major,…
