Being from the lowest part of the city, it was difficult to gain respect from others. Nobody ever believed a student from my high school would get into any high ranking university in Texas. I wanted to try my hardest academically so I could get into the school of my dreams. No matter what my past consisted of or where I came from, I was determined to make my hard work pay off. One day while eating at a local café, I realized where I was and noticed that I was surrounded by the Mexican culture. From Mexican cuisine to Mexican music, I was completely submerged in a cultural bubble; one that I was comfortable with. I decided that I would always have my culture, and studying in an environment that was the opposite, would be the best thing for me to branch out and explore. No matter how hard I tried, I did not have anybody to look up to. I am a very athletic person, therefore in my free time my activities include running, playing sports, coaching and being involved with my family. Working two jobs, one being a Nursing Assistant and Unit Technician at The Community Health Center of Branch County and the other doing in home care for an elderly patient, does make it difficult to find free time. With what little free time I do have I enjoy spending it with my family as they are very important to me. I try to make it a routine to visit with my grandmas to have lunch with them and to drive them around where ever is needed due to the fact that they both cannot drive. I am currently training to run a marathon in May. During softball season, I volunteer with the coaching staff at the Coldwater High School. My greatest satisfaction so far in life, is the fact that I am one of few to have graduated from a college with a degree within my family. My most prized possession is my mental stability and ethical background that I have acquired from my southern upbringing. Growing up in a rural community in the south and being reared by elderly parents allowed my seeds of character and respect to be nurtured by an entire village of people who saw my potential and wanted to see me succeed and thus pushed and prayed for my wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. As a child, series of unique experiences of being able to develop intimate and loving relationships with almost everyone in my community made me appreciate the influence of everyone on my life. It was not long before I realized that no matter how old or young, rich or poor, or educated a person was, everyone contributed to humanity’s niche…
