Colin Trump's Speech: Kneeling For The National Anthem
Kneeling for the National Anthem The U.S. has been a controversial place in the past decade with different people stepping up into power and new controversies that are dividing the public. Trump's Speech was his plan to how he is going to help this division in this country. Trump says in his speech “building a safe, strong and proud america”. He says this was what he has done since he has been in office. On the other hand, many people think that he has been doing the opposite, and separating this country even more than before. But many people optimistic for the change in this country and that most of the division fades away over the years. Many social issues are small and only are argued about by a little amount of people. But many …show more content…
Colin took a knee during the national anthem before his game started. He had said that this was in response to the police brutality against black people. When he did this many people were in conflict about whether this was disrespectful or a movement in this country that was needed. Colin said he did this because he didn’t want to “show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color”. After he did this many people responded by joining marches for the cause and or participating in kneeling during the anthem. While many did this, others took action by boycotting the NFL, or responding on social media to put their opinion on this situation, which even the President put his own opinion on this issue. President Trump said “Can you believe that the disrespect for our Country, our Flag, our Anthem continues without penalty to the players. The Commissioner has lost control of the hemorrhaging league”, saying how he believes that the players can do whatever they want. Very small things that people do can start an issue that would later go on a divide this country more and more, but many of the social issues could help get a solution for the problems that this country has, and help resolve the hate that many people have in the country for one …show more content…
Many people who’ve seen this and have served in the military feel disrespected “The national anthem pays respect to the people who have risked their lives, been injured, or died defending the United States”(Online Source). It's also a terrible way to promote a cause, coach Dabo Swinney of the University of Clemson said “I don’t think it’s good to be a distraction to your team. I don’t think it’s good to use your team as the platform”(ProCon.org). Which is true, there are other ways of getting your message out instead of doing it on live television. Its ineffective because you’ll have a more backlash from the people who believe you should stand for the National Anthem and from people who are just patriotic for this country. It's also a counterproductive way of showing your support for a cause because in the end you’re just dividing the people more and more on this issue, that your goal was to stop the division and find a peaceful solution. Some of the fans have also stated how they feel about the situation, saying “Pray before or pray after. Taking a knee during the National Anthem these days screams disrespect for our Flag, OUr Country and our troops. My son and the entire armed forces deserve better than that”(ProCon.org). Which shows that the people who watch the games do not want to see football turned into a place where people express the opinions on certain

In the Newsela article “Colin Kaepernick has 49ers fans burning their Jerseys” Cindy Boren writes about the current issue in the NFL when Colin Kaepernick took a kneel and refused to stand during the national anthem. She continues to write about the effects that took place shortly after. One fan sent a video of him torching a jersey while the national anthem played, and another fan recording, setting fire to a Kaepernick jersey and scoffed at him telling him to “Get the F out of the country.” However, others think differently of the situation. Colin stated “I am not going to stand up and show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” Chip Kelly, his coach, supported him protesting. In the article, “The athlete as agent of change,” by Lonnie Bunch and David Skorton, many athletes are using the national anthem to influence people. Many people dislike this however, I am fine with it. I see it as them trying to get across a point about a problem in the world, such as racism. Maybe they just think of the American flag do to all the problems in the world. For example it states,“He, too, saw the flag in a different light due to the racism he faced every day. As he wrote in his 1972 autobiography, "I cannot stand and sing the anthem. I cannot salute the flag; I know that I am a black man in a white world." As you can tell from the evidence provided the reason Jackie saw the flag in a different way was because of the color of…

In an attempt to persuade high school football players against following the footsteps of Colin Kaepernick, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback who refused to stand up for the playing of the American national anthem during their games to protest against systemic racism in the United States, David Brooks, in his article “The Uses of Patriotism,” calls Kaepernick’s actions “extremely counterproductive” as it creates a “crisis of solidarity.” To Brooks, sitting during the national anthem demonstrates a lack of gratitude to America’s ancestors and their legacy, and the loss of a sense that “we’re all in this together.” Throughout the article, he emphasizes on the importance of patriotism in the maintenance of the nation. He cites that the American…

Many people are in agreement that Kaepernick has the right to choose whether he wants to stand or kneel for the National Anthem. People who support Kaepernick would say that he is protesting but protesting what? Is he protesting the segregation of white and black people? In the article “Kaepernick had no choice but to kneel” by John McWhorter, McWhorter states “The tension between black people and the cops is not just one more race issue roiling the nation: it is the key one. It is the central cause of black people’s sense of general alienation, the first thing that comes up when you ask black people why they think racism defines their lives. It was what the panthers were all about, what gangsta rap was all about, what the O.J. Simpson vigilante-justice…

In the article Trump to “NFL Protests: Standing with locked arms is good, kneeling is not acceptable” by Caroline Kenny, the author explains that Donald Trump used a very harsh language against the NFL players that took a knee during the national anthem. In the article “Seahawks, Titans, Steelers Stay in Locker Rooms during National Anthem as More Players Protest” by Katherine Iam, the author will explain the same thing and also states how Donald Trump kept tweeting about the NFL players that knelt during the national anthem and said that all the players need to be fired and wanted them to get out of the field. I personally believe that standing for the flag should not be mandatory especially in the U.S., because it is known as a country where…

Refusing to stand, such as kneeling and locking arms during the national anthem has quickly become a questionable action by Americans. President Donald Trump has recently released a statement on the topic explaining his thoughts, which are that Americans, especially professional football players, should be penalized for refusing to stand during the national anthem. All of this started when Colin Kaepernick, a famous NFL football player, refused to stand during the national anthem. Kaepernick’s argument was that he felt all of the freedoms and rights were not being upheld by America (discrimination, oppression, and police brutality). While some Americans may be angered and feel disrespected, those who are taking action have the right to do so, due to the first amendment.…

This speech began as epideictic, with a brief mention of his condolences for the families and the lives lost, and included a moment of silence. However, the remainder of his speech turned to a more deliberative type of oratory, which is also known as political rhetoric. This type of rhetorical setting addresses topics such as war and peace, national defense, trade, and legislation, to assess what is harmful and beneficial (Herrick, 2016). During his speech, Trump delivered self-congratulatory comments, political attacks, and strove to instill fear of terrorism. His speech was used an opportunity to spread suspicion and to frame himself as uniquely positioned to make the country safer. There was no sincere outreach to the American public, and the facts he presented did not appear to match the rhetoric.…

Last Friday night at our football game, the p.a. announcer said, “Would everyone this time please stand, not kneel, for the playing of the national anthem.” When I heard this at first I chuckled, but after I realized that this subject has a huge impact on the NFL and small towns like ours. The act of kneeling during the national anthem is showing awareness of injustice and police brutality. This movement started in the preseason of the NFL by a black player, Colin Kaepernick. In under a month, many other football players have taken the side of Kaepernick. Do you think it’s fair that police can use force to protect and serve us Americans? Police officers strive to protect people in America, however, in some places police officers abuse their…

Argumentative Essay It all started in a 2016 NFL preseason game with the San Francisco 49ers. Quietly, Colin Kaepernick kneeled at our flag instead of standing and showing respect. This started a trend, where lots of men started to kneel at the anthem. This is not okay, because, kneeling for the National Anthem is disrespectful to the flag, it is causing more tension in our country, and you can do this movement in a better way.…

    Sports and Religion

Why can't they do that somewhere else? Athletes are not shoving religion down our throat, please, that claim is ridiculous. Taken by how he expresses himself about his faith, Tim Tebow is arguably one of most religious athlete around, and this kid isn’t even a pro athlete, yet he is one of the most respected players in America. Tebow isn’t trying to make anyone change religion when he writes John 3:16 on his eye black, and believe me if you are a fan going to a football game, religion is one of the last things you see from the stands. The players are out on the field beating the hell out of each other, however praying, no matter what religion you are, what team you play for, or what the scoreboard says, is majorly a part of the any sporting event. It’s not like praying is showing the players religious belief, since I think every religion prays, it’s just simply a part of the game to take a knee and say some prayers. Think about it from little league to the professionals whenever someone gets hurt you take a knee and what are you suppose to do? Pray that the injured athlete is alright. Rick Reilly, the auther, says it’s alright for an athlete to make the sign of the cross before a play, but that a gathering at the end of the game, were players from both team get down and give thanks that no one was injured and they hope that the next game goes just the same is wrong to him. I am surprised to see an article about this issue. Athletes aren’t priest trying to get you to join their religion, they go and play they’re heart out, and for them to get down on a knee and give thanks after a well played game, it is showing respect, respect to the other team for the most part, that even though in the game we may hate each other, in the end we all feel the same way, glad that no one got hurt and are grateful to be doing something we love.…
