THESIS STATEMENT:
THE STATEMENT IS VALID TO THE EXTENT THAT KENNEDY’S TOUGH STANCE AND AGGRESSIVENESS AGAINST CASTRO’S REGIME CAUSED CASTRO TO SEEK CLOSER TIES TO THE USSR, WHICH LAID THE FOUNDATIONS FOR THE OUTBREAK OF THE MISSILE CRISIS. HOWEVER, THE STATEMENT IS ONLY PARTIALLY VALID AS CASTRO’S ANTI-US POLICIES AND THE SOVIET’S PLACEMENT OF THEIR MISSILES IN CUBA CONTRIBUTED TO THE OUTBREAK OF THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS.

1. Firstly, the US strong response to cut all economic and diplomatic relations with Cuba caused Castro to lean towards the USSR for economic aid, thus causing the conditions for the crisis.

2. Secondly, US covert armed response to overthrow Castro’s regime caused Castro to seek closer ties with the USSR, thus intensifying US insecurities in Central America.
