Code Talkers
Code Talkers
By: Leilani Mondragon

I think the book Code Talkers was a good book because it can teach you about how bad it was during the war. It teaches you that when you were about 6 you would be taken away from your parents and be sent 100 miles away into a boarding school. In boarding school you would be whipped or disrespected.

The first reason I really liked Code Talkers was because it shows how they lived. I found out that during war they would live in fox holes. The japanese would even spy on the navajos at night. The Navajos also traveled a lot like they went to Hawaii and Guam for examples.

The second reason I recommend Code Talkers is for teaching you that hard work pays off. Like when the navajos had to go to boarding school well that helped later in life when they went to boot camp and was in real war. In the end that hard work helped a lot because the
Navajos ended up winning the battle of Guam. Even though war made them tired and sick it was worth it.

The third reason I recommend it is because it shows that back then how harsh it was.
Captured americans, british, and australian soldiers were forced into slave, labor, starved, and beaten. Some were even used for medical experiments. Also twelve thousand men were either dead or missing. word. I also liked all the war and all it just seems better when you have action. Not to spoil it but
And the last reason I liked the book was the action. I liked how it explained every little word by one part in the book near the end Ned’s friend smitty ends up dieing.

Overall the book
Code Talkers was pretty interesting. And again I highly recommend this book. Mainly this book is for people who like war or just reading from the past. At first I thought it was gonna be boring but it's awesome. If I were you I would go and check out that book.

There were was a specific role the code talkers played in the war. For example, one of the role of the code talkers was to take secret messages to and from places. In the text it states, “The Code Talkers were "walking carriers" of the code. Each written message that was read aloud by a Code Talker was immediately destroyed. It would be many years before the Code Talkers would be honored for their central role in the Allies' victory.” This shows that the code talkers made the messages impossible to crack.…

    1. The book I selected was Myrer, Anton. Once an Eagle. New York: HarperPerennial, 2002. Myrer enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and participated in the invasion of Guam where he was wounded and later discharged. Interestingly, he was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, not far from For Devens. This book has been described by some as an anti-war novel. Given the experiences of the author, there are understandably many real and graphic descriptions of the effects of war on the Soldier, physically and mentally. As the Foreword of the book stated, “no one who has experienced combat directly, or even vicariously, would seek it.”…

Despite their people being slaughtered and lack of recognition from the government, Navajo code talkers still aided the United States in a time of need. During WWII the U.S was in need of a cipher, which is a code to help transmit messages without the Japanese interfering and intercepting, so they turned to the Navajo. The Navajo Language was spoken only by the Navajo and not written down at all. It was the perfect code for the military.…

The Navajo’s climate and geography affected them. Geography caused them not to have the same food or clothing in all parts of the Navajo land because some stuff didn’t grow everywhere and, the terrain made them wear different clothing according to altitude weather. Climate caused them not to have the same food, clothing or shelter all year around either. Some stuff could only be found a certain season. In the winter they had to wear more layers but, as for in the…

At least with respect to their own environment, these people had considerably more knowledge than we do today. Every indication we have about traditional Indian life suggests that they never stopped learning and gathering insights into the operation of the natural world. This is another reason to encourage our Navajo language to the future generations for it to become more powerful as well as not lose our traditional…

What I enjoyed most about reading this book was the way the author introduced and described all of the characters. I had a great picture in my mind about each and every character and I felt myself thinking about some of them even when they were absent from a page or two. It became so interesting that before I could finish the book, I had to turn to the internet to look up the characters of the movie. I just had to see them in the flesh!…
