Code Meshing and Code Switching
Code Meshing is a strategy for blending many varieties with privileged standard language, it combines the ordinary language with non-formal conversations. Code Switching is the practice of alternating between two or more languages or varieties of language in conversation. When people switch codes they do not have to make the same cognitive effort as when they try to integrate communitive devices for code meshing.
Many people use both code switching and code meshing. When it comes to me I utilize code meshing more because I am around more people of the English culture. So most of the time when we use a different way in saying our words such as slang we understand one another. I never had to switch to a different

    Assimilation is the process in where individuals or groups of people differing ethnic heritage are absorbed into the dominant culture of a society. The process of assimilating involves taking on the traits of the dominant culture to such a degree that the assimilating group becomes socially indistinguishable from other members of the society. Code Talker is about a boy named Kii who must leave everything behind to go to a strict school that only allows English. Going to this new school is hard for him. Kii knows little to no English since he grew up speaking Navajo. When he gets a little older he learns he can join the Marines in WWII where he is asked to speak a secret code that involves his native language. His experiences helped save our nation and in the end, made him a hero. Kii Yahzi demonstrates growth as a character as he assimilates to his ever-changing environment.…

    In the article “A Way with Words, or Away with Words: Effect of Texting and IM’ing on Language,” Timothy Barranco debates whether the texting language will have a positive or negative impact on our English language. The author argues that the youth are becoming “bilingual,” whereas others believe the text language is a “degradation of proper English.” (Barranco Pg., 27) Being bilingual at a young age will allow for better opportunities in the future when it comes to jobs.
