Coach Butcher: My Definition Of A Mentor
What is your definition of a Mentor? To me a mentor can be anyone, I think of a mentor as someone who encourages and motivates the growth of an individual mentally or physically. “Sometimes people just need a little nudge, a little direction, a little coaching, and the greatest things can happen” - Pete Carroll. My role model is Coach Butcher, my athletics coach, he does not only coach but encourage his young students and athletes just like me to try their best every day.
Coach Butcher is my role model because of the passion that he has for young people. He has a positive, honest, and loyal character which sets an example for his athletes and students. We are reminded that in life you need to keep the people that love us closer because they are the ones love you and care for you so you should value them. Coach has been an inspiration to me because he says “If you're doing best job who is going to stop you”. The values that coach continues to teach, inspires me, set an example, and makes me appreciate more of what …show more content…
Coach has great integrity which plays in a role in my life because he sets an example that you should have honesty and respect yourself and other. “Life is not easy there is always going to be someone better than you at something that is why no one is perfect”- Coach Butcher. Coach is always supporting us, but he also emphasizes that there is always someone better than you at something because no one is perfect, but that doesn’t mean that you should not try your best at all times. I also admire coach because of how he sets high standards and expectations. By setting high expectations he is pushing us (students and athletes) in order to succeed. Setting high standards for me helps me know that the sky is the limit, so I should always try my best in whatever I

    As a coach I want to be the leader of a successful program who helps student athletes excel on and off of the field. I will do this by first hiring good assistant coaches around me who can help me bring my vision to reality. It will require dedication from the student athletes in the classroom and in practice and games to be the absolute best they can be in any situation. It will be up to me to instill in my athletes hard work and dedication in everything they do. So I will first need them to respect and maybe even fear me a little bit, but I still need to maintain a close enough relationship with them to where they can consider me a friend and be able to turn to me in any time of need. I will first stress the importance of hard work through drills and conditioning, but at the same time not make it feel like work for them; make them understand there is a reason for all of the things that we do on a daily basis. Once the team understands what it takes to play for me; maybe even some quit because they think it will be too hard, that's what I want; I don't want the weak ones who will give up on themselves and their teammates, only the strong will survive. Then you can evaluate each individual in every facade of the game and start to teach them in the areas that they are weak and strengthen their strengths. I want my team to be able to runs themselves without one coach needed at a practice or a game. Of course coaches will be there but by halfway through a season I want my team to run like a well-oiled machine not needing any coaches to tell them to do any specific thing. I will instill in my team self confidence that they can do anything, beat anyone, and achieve any goal that they set their minds on on any given day.
