The GROW coaching Model is a powerful framework for navigating a route through a coaching session as well as providing means of finding your way when lost. It can be applied to an individual session, but can equally be applied to a part of a session, or to a series of sessions. The GROW coaching model helps the coachee really identify what they want from the conversation. It helps prevent the conversation from becoming an aimless chat. If the goal is a Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant goal with a Time limit on it (SMART-end), the coach and coachee know exactly the direction the session would be going.…

Ever since I was little, the same question has been asked to me, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” When I was at the age of four the answer might have been an astronaut or a football player but times have changed. As time progressed it changed to an architect, then to a police officer, and all different types of jobs as I got to college I really started to think about what I want to do. It ranged very much. I wanted to study criminal justice and become a police officer. Then wanted to start my own restaurant. But now I believe my dream occupation after all these years would have to be an athletic director.…

In the excerpt from the Athletic Director’s Desk Reference they talked about how to handle a coach’s termination. Talking with the Human Resource office for advice and having written documentation supporting the decision to terminate will help with the transition and decision making process as well as seeking legal advice. Firing a coach can be a little more difficult because stakeholder can directly or indirectly get involved in the decision making process, it is essential for the athletic director to consult with the higher administration. The athletic director should keep in mind the needs of the student athlete and how they will take the news of the termination. When dealing with the media on their decisions to terminate the article said…

After reading these three articles between how coaches and players do not get along with them attacking each other and when a player does something terrible and the coach defends them. We all have been in a situation where we do not want to be talked to by a family member or friend just because he had a bad day, but when you bring that attitude to a sporting event or practice sometimes the player or coach my lose their composure. Which happened in the three articles that I read, dealing with Latrell Sprewell choked his coach PJ Carlesimo during practice, coach Bobby Knight choked one of his own players Neil Reed, and when Rick Carlisle defended Ron Artest and other players he coached after the brawl in Detroit. In reading those articles I feel that they told me that there is either a bad, competitive, or good relationship between a player and coach. The one with Sprewell and Carlesimo, Sprewell who showed up to practice late that day choked his coach Carlesimo because Carlesimo wanted to know where he has been for being late. Although in the article it states that racial comments were said to Sprewell, but later found out that there were no such thing. So Sprewell was fired by the Golden State Warriors, the team he played for at the time, and was suspended by the NBA for the remainder of the season. In the article about Bobby Knight choking his player Neil Reed, it was halftime during a game when Bobby Knight was still coaching the Indiana University 's men 's basketball team and Knight was so upset with his players that the one player Neil Reed said something to Knight and Knight went after him and started choking him. After the news broke out about that incident the Indiana University 's President fined Bobby Knight $30,000 and suspended him three games. In the final article I read coach Rick Carlisle defends Ron Artest 's actions against the Detroit Pistons fan that threw a cup of beer at him and then Artest went after him in that brawl we…

When it comes to leadership and management, Coach K and Coach Knight are undeniably the two most respected and committed college basketball coaches in the United States. But the one thing that sets the two apart is their leadership styles. Coach Knight chooses to lead by intimidation and Coach K choice is to use positive reinforcement. Both leadership styles have produced great results with a win-win record at both colleges. Leadership is a process in which the leader has to influence their follower’s in order to achieve a set of common goals, and in these two cases it’s to win basketball games.…

    Teaching and Coaching

The teaching-coaching function of the domains of nursing practice is a very important aspect that nurses must practice to be effective. We learn many things from textbooks, clinical environments and job placements; but I think some of the most valuable lessons and skills that I have learned were from my fellow nurses and other healthcare providers while on the job. I work with adolescents on a daily basis that are cognitively impaired that need to be taught many life skills. The competencies that I want to emphasize in my post are the first that is listed which is; “Timing: Capturing a Patient’s Readiness to Learn”. This one particular patient that was on my unit was a 14 year old male that was being resistant to the teaching of proper use of his metered dose inhaler. The patient did not want to accept the fact that he had asthma. He stated that the only reason that he has shortness of breath was, “because I smoke too many cigarettes”. I recognized that the patient just simply wasn’t ready to learn at this time. “Assessing where a patient is, how open he is to information, deciding when to go ahead even when the patient does not appear ready, are key aspects of effective patient teaching” (Benner, 2001). So I waited a few hours later and gathered some information about asthma and the benefits of using the inhaler. After hours upon hours of speaking with the patient, he was finally able to realize that the inhaler would give him a better quality of life when used correctly. This was about a month ago, and the patient is now using the inhaler as needed, the correct way. This may seem like a small achievement to some, but I felt very complete when I went home that night after speaking with this patient. Thank you for reading my post, I look forward to reading your feedback. James 5:15 - And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.…
