I took the required classes prior to applying into the program, which were Computer Technology I and II as well as the other graduation requirements. Come the end of my Junior year, I had entered into the program. In the beginning, there weren’t any job openings in the veterinary field. Fortunately, one opened up at Animal Medical Center in mid July. I had received a phone call from Dr. White, the head veterinarian and owner, requesting an interview. With hopes to learn as much as I could and test whether business was something I could see myself doing for the long run I started my first day at the program. After a few days of getting to know my other classmates and getting to know what our routine would be like we started to learn and as you could already guess I loved it. The program taught us things from how complex it could be to write a professional email but it also gave us the opportunity to take charge and start our very own small business which consisted of five members who all had an important role in order to make our business…

As the end of the year approached, all the students began to choose what classes they would take the next year, and for each core class, the student would need the signature of approval on their choice for next year. When I brought my course selection sheet to Mr. Brown, he noted that I had signed up for on-level junior English, and then he stated that he wouldn't sign my sheet unless I was going into advanced English again the next year. So I changed my choice on the paper so he would sign it, then I erased what I had changed and signed up for the on-level class, because I knew I would do better in a non-advanced class, and my grade point average had already suffered…

If I could insert the upside down smiley face, I would because this is the perfect moment. Treasurer. I later received another email apologizing for the error and that it didn’t apply to me. My first exposure to occupational therapy came while I was working as an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapist with a young girl with apraxia. Her speech problems had been linked to a lack of core strength, and we were to begin implementing an exercise routine to increase her strength. To achieve this goal in an enjoyable yet effective way for the child, an occupational therapist was consulted and began teaching us methods that incorporated preferred play activities into her core strengthening program. Running this new program became the highlight of our sessions, for both me and her it seemed. The smiles and giggles had me enjoying my job on a greater level; it was not only entertaining for the child, but a delight for me to implement. It was then I became extremely intrigued about the OT profession, and decided to explore the options the field had to offer. Research and curiosity eventually landed me on various websites and talking to those in the field, gaining knowledge about the different types of therapies and types of needs targeted by occupational therapists. The part that struck me most after all my research: OT is about daily life. It is about the activities that occupy our time, the small obstacles most people tackle each day with ease, obliviously unaware of the magnitude of importance these tiniest of accomplishments can truly encompass. The little everyday challenges in life are often the ones most overlooked, but to those unable or learning to conquer these challenges, their importance is evident. To me, these daily obstacles seemed like the most essential to overcome, small successes that could greatly improve an individual’s quality of life.…

Describe a person who has influenced you" is the opening phrase of several personal statement prompts that go on to ask that you provide details of what that influence was. The major mistake made in these personal statement essays is that candidates make the essay about the individual and that individual's achievements and character, which is all fine, but not if it is at the expense of detailing how that person has influenced you. The other mistake candidates make in response to this prompt is that they answer with the intuitive "first response," which is usually a parent. And there is nothing wrong with offering a parent as the influential person - but only if in so doing, you can show that it was your parent who provided you with the abilities…
