Cloud COmputing
If used properly there can be several advantages to working with cloud data in business. Cloud computing is probably the most cost efficient method to use, maintain and upgrade. Traditional desktop software costs companies a lot in terms of finance. Adding up the licensing fees for multiple users can prove to be very expensive for the establishment concerned. The cloud, on the other hand, is available at much cheaper rates and hence, can significantly lower the company’s IT expenses. The cloud provides almost unlimited storage. Storing information in the cloud gives you almost unlimited storage capacity. Hence, you no more need to worry about running out of storage space or increasing your current storage space availability. Since all your data is stored in the cloud, backing it up and restoring the same is relatively much easier than storing the same on a physical device. Furthermore, most cloud service providers are usually competent enough to handle recovery of information. Hence, this makes the entire process of backup and recovery much simpler than other traditional methods of data storage. In the cloud, software integration is usually something that occurs automatically. This means that you do not need to take additional efforts to customize and integrate your applications as per your preferences. This aspect usually takes care of itself. Not only that, cloud computing allows you to customize your options with great ease. Hence, you can handpick just those services and software applications that you think will best suit your particular enterprise. Lastly and most importantly, cloud computing gives you the advantage of quick deployment. Once you opt for this method of functioning, your entire system can be fully functional in a matter of a few minutes. Of course, the amount of time taken here will depend on the exact kind of technology that you need for your business. Although the cloud can be a very useful tool there are some disadvantages. Though

The biggest noticeable advantages in cloud computing have to be the ease of running programs with out installing any new applications (since the provider installs it for you in their cloud), and payment depends on membership, and which billing method you chose; for example, monitored payment or a flat rate (Mitchell). However, there are competing companies such as Google Apps Marketplace, Windows Azure, Amazon Web Services, Success Factors, and so on, that make cloud computing affordable on different user levels. IT departments and infrastructure providers are under increasing pressure to provide computing infrastructure at the lowest possible cost. In order to do this, the concepts of resource pooling, virtualization, dynamic provisioning, utility and commodity computing must be leveraged to create a public or private cloud that meets these needs. Business owners can use these resources as per their requirement even if that is for few hours a day or few days a month and have to pay only for that actual use. Thus this relatively new concept is becoming highly popular among IT organizations because of its flexibility and cost effectiveness. If I were advising a company trying to make a decision about cloud computing for key business applications, I would first advise based on the amount of data which cloud system would be best fit for their business needs. A supercomputer with extreme amounts of space and storage may not be conducive for all business or organizations, as some companies rely less on data than others, and at the same time, some companies rely heavily on data, but isn’t enough to incorporate such a large IT infrastructure. Cloud computing makes data accessible for any and all employees, who can view and analyze others information as well as their own, leading to better overall business performance and effective collaboration/communications.…

They had the ability to deploy new applications and automated software updates instantly because they were able to scale up and down as demand changed or the business required it. They could access their cloud from anywhere thanks to the freedom of remote access. The web services provided Ericsson with a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform with data center locations in the U.S., Europe, Singapore, and Japan. The company chose Amazon Web Services (AWS) because they felt AWS was the most integrated public cloud provider in the Rightscale Cloud Management Platform (Rightscale). “The Ericsson team states that having hosting centers in various regions was important for them. AWS also showed a better quality of service with solid management and a proven track record.” (Amazon Web Services, 2012)…
