Clinical Reflective Report
The beginning of the semester we were given an assignment to write our goals, strengths and weaknesses going into clinical. We were informed that they had to be obtainable when deciding what they would be. I thought hard on what mine would be and thankfully with the help of the clinical staff I was able to create my goals, strengths, and weaknesses.
My goals for the semester are that I will successfully perform 87 percent of chest examinations unassisted, I will observe less then 15 percent of all observed examinations this semester and that I will repeat 15 percent or less of supine abdomen examinations; this will include the supine abdomen for the flat and erect series. I successfully performed 43.66 percent out of the goal of 87 percent.

As of April 11, 2017, I have a total of 17 competences. I went in with the goal of obtaining 7 total competencies and at this point have succeeded in obtaining that goal. Being at Lane is one of the best places to be for clinical. The technologists are willing to help you in any way possible. They encourage you and give positive feedback to help build your confidence. When receiving constructive criticism, the technologists explain what they see that you as a student can improve on. They give feedback politely and to help you understand for the future. Another thing that makes Lane a great sight is that the entire radiology department communicates efficiently, treats one another with respect, and work as a team to get the job done. The only negative thing I could say about rotating from Lane is getting out of clinic at 11 at night. Once you get past the first week you form a schedule to manage assignments, tests, and class. What I found the most appealing about Lane was that all technologists are crossed trained in mammography, CT, Nuclear Medicine, and Magnetic resonance. When They are slow they all walk over to x-ray to see if they can help in

Mr Johan experiences symptoms of panic attack when he feels self-conscious in front of other people when performing certain tasks. He reported feeling faint and had black out of thoughts during those episodes, whereby he was not able to think of anything. Both his hands would tremble and become numb. My dream for the next four years is to achieve a Physician Assistant degree at St. John’s University. As I transition to college from high school, I understand how there is no one in the world besides myself to help me reach my goal and it will require hard work as well as motivation to reach that point. At times, I feel overwhelmed with the struggles that arise in achieving my degree, but that would not stop me from my main point in coming to this school. I am able to connect my experience to the experience the Nolan’s and my dad went through when it was their time to achieve their dreams. I find it to be very lucky to go to school in New York because I am already one step ahead of my game to fulfill my target since New York is the place where there are many opportunities for everyone. Hence, having a motivated outlook on life, everything that is impossible will be…

Bradford, I really enjoyed your post as we share the same ideas and seem to have the same experiences with multiple supervisors. I liked how you stated up front that unity of command and unity of direction mean different things and not should not be confused with each other. To me, unity of command is the most important because unity of direction cannot exist without it, especially in criminal justice. Like you said, each officer should only have one direct supervisor that is ultimately responsible for him or her because confusion can arise if there are more than one. I saw this recently at my agency and it really affects the newer officers if the problem is not corrected. I also saw how unity of direction can really work when one…

Over the past couple of weeks I have been reflecting on a clinical skill where I was the nurse who had to assit a patient who was unable to feed herself. By reflecting on my experiences I became aware of my feelings, communication, and observations which was not in the forefront of my awareness during my recording. The following paper I am going to evaluate how the skill was preformed so it can be improved for future practise. I have choosen to use Gibbs (1998) model of reflection as cited by Mc Cabe & Timmons (2006).…

I was very fortunate to get hands-on clinical experience here in Internal Medicine and Cardiology for four weeks. Apart from history taking with examination in both outpatient and inpatient settings with the case presentation in morning rounds and regular daily follow-up of patients, I had the chance to observe sleep studies in detail, how we practically look for any abnormality in each stage of sleep really fascinated me. Most exciting part of this rotation was getting familiarized with electronic medical records, which took me some time to adjust, but I was quite comfortable in it by the end of my second week here. Owing to my interest in Cardiology I gave a presentation on valvular heart diseases and words of encouragement and praise really…

For my finial reflection I have decided to reflect on the reflective practice itself and my abilities to practice reflection, as it appears I am having some issues with the process. After receiving an A- on my last reflection, I spoke with my Faculty Advisor (FA) with the intention of discovering why I was not achieving marks in the A+ range on my reflections, and what I need to work on to improve on the quality of my reflections. Her feedback was that I was too broad in my approach; I spend too much time discussing the event and did not go into enough depth in my reflective analysis. I hope and anticipate that this reflection will be better; as I hope to demonstrate a deeper analysis of the issue and techniques I can use to improve my skills.…

The community I grew up in deep in the heart of Austin, Texas celebrated my heritage, honored differences in culture, and fostered personal growth and self-discovery. My parents, with the strong work ethic they developed on their family’s farms in Ghana, encouraged my brother and me to work hard and find ways to use my skills to be of service to others. My experiences engaging with the communities that I have lived inspire me to become a physician dedicated to finding the most effective ways to communicate with my patients and improve their health outcomes in different types of environments. I first worked in health care locally during the summer after my sophomore year of college when I volunteered at the People’s Community Clinic. It was there that I got my first look at direct health interventions through making health education materials in the…

During a two week mission trip to Trujillo, Peru I volunteered in a medical clinic. My life purpose; becoming a nurse, was revealed to me while comforting children with distended abdomens due to malnutrition and contaminated water, as well as elders with crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis. This heartbreaking experience, gave me a cultured view of global healthcare needs. My goal as a nurse is to bring joy and comfort to patients. A girl from my highschool was diagnosed with stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma at age 14 and throughout her treatment, she spoke so highly of the nurses that made an impact in her short life. I wish to provide this kind of meaningful compassion to a patient one day.…

The first week of my clinical experience was quite interesting. While it was under the same umbrella as pediatric nursing, it was slightly different from the pediatric clinical rotation. For instance, the children who came to the nurse’s office were not sick enough to the point of requiring hospitalization, and some of them just wanted to talk. Surprisingly, the desire some of the kids had to sit to talk did not seem to stem from them wanting to be out of class; however, that could have been part of it as well.…
