Clinical Informatics Paper

Informatics is the art of computer information structures. Clinical informatics is the use of information and technology, to deliver care and offers patients the ability to observer their wellbeing (Levin, Harper, & Barr, 2015, para. 3). In comparing these two areas, they are linked. There is no way to offer clinical information to patients or providers without having informatics.

An example of clinical informatics used within my organization is the use of the texting tool within point click care. This tool offers the ability to message a provider with updates, issues, and even offers to upload pictures. This information is directly sent to the provider’s mobile device. This line of communication for a nursing home is very useful and has improved communication between nurse and provider, which intern improves patient care and outcomes.

Another example of clinical informatics used within my previous organization is the use of patient discharge sheets upon completion of an appointment. This offered a computer printout of what the appointment was based on, diagnosis, treatment, medications prescribed and the next follow up appointment. This information was provided at the end of the appointment on paper or sent via secure email to the patients who provided
By accurately completing the data set I establish, a plan of care for each individual, identify the need for staffing, and the needed funds to provided care. This improves patient care, coordination of care, and discharge success. The next is by monitoring immunizations among the patient population within the facility. This is done through a data base search and identifies individuals out of compliance. This allows staff to offer immunization updates, with given consent.
