Clay Matthews Iii
English Free Topic Essay #2
‘’Clay Matthews III’’
Virgilio Henriquez 11-3

Clay Matthews III is an American football linebacker that plays for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League. He is my favorite NFL player, because I, myself, play as a linebacker in my team, so I use Clay Matthews as my inspiration and motivation to become better every day. Even though he doesn’t play in my favorite NFL team, I consider him a very good player because of his swiftness, strength, and the fact that he (almost) always plays fair.
Clay Matthews III was born in the Northridge district of Los Angeles. His parents were Clay and Leslie Matthews. He attended Agoura High School in Agoura Hills, California. Physically, Matthews was a late bloomer, meaning that he reached the state of puberty later than what is considered to be ‘’normal’’ (13-16 years old). His father was the team defensive coordinator of the high school he was attending, but declined to start his son because he was physically undersized. Matthews began developing physically in his senior season, but only gained interest from Division IFCS schools and local community colleges. Because of this, he described his own recruiting status out of high school as ‘’very unlikely’’. Like his father and uncle, Matthews opted to attend the University of Southern California with hopes of becoming a member of the Trojans football team.
Matthews played for the USC Trojans football team for the year 2005 until 2008, under head coach Pete Carroll and Linebacker Coach Ken Norton. During his first season, USC's 2004 National Championship season, he played only on the scout team and turned down several playing opportunities during garbage time during the fourth quarters of games in order to preserve his redshirt status and remaining seasons of NCAA eligibility. He was granted full athletic scholarship status at the beginning of the 2006 season. Matthews continued to play reserve linebacker in the 2006 and 2007

Thesis: College athletes who are facing an injury during their season should be assisted by a consoler or a sport psychologist for the overall welfare of players (because they are at risk of a psychological breakdown.) A conflicting argument could be that athletes are always receiving special treatment and should be treated the same as any other college student. My main audience that I would be speaking to would be sport organizations, coaches, student athletes, and just students not participating in a sport. Ways to persuade my audience is by giving evidence of my argument and also by using my personal experience. I currently play baseball while attending college and have suffered…

It may only take a couple of seconds for a college football player’s career or season to be taken away from him. Hundreds of college football players get hurt every year; most are sidelined for just a couple of weeks. Some players, however, lose their entire season and even careers to just one injury. When a player is not able to play the entire season, they may lose their scholarship. Standing on a football field’s sideline with an injury is one of the worst feelings a player can have. Normally, teams only have one or two players who can start at a position. Knowing which positions get hurt the most would be useful, because a coach or manager then knows which positions he needs to draft or recruit to his team, so there are more than one or two players capable of playing the position. If for example, offensive running backs are the most prone to being injured, a coach can recruit and train…

When you live with just the necessities, you show yourself that there is more to entertainment and comfort in life, that seeking material wealth all the time, Is a waste of time and the precious gift of life which God has bestowed upon us to live for His glory and not our own. Gods will is indeed inedible. Nothing we can do will prevent what He has in store for us in this life and the next. When we do follow Gods will and obey Him, much joy and peace will pursue those who follow Christ. Blessings abound in the righteous living of the one who obeys and hears God.…
