1. General Merchandise store

 Also known as community stores or corner stores
 The most common type of retail store in the Philippines and easiest to start with
 Carries a wide variety of items

Advantages of General Merchandise

Requires a small capital to start with
Small operating expenses
Owner can supervised the operation of the store
Neighbors and friends can be easily steady customers Disadvantages of General
Merchandise

Overstocking
Lack of effective accounting methods Poor display

 Carries a single line or closely allied lines of mercahandise Specialty Shop
 High Quality Merchnadise

 Maximum service

Advantages of Specialty stores
Offers a wider variety of items of single line Proprietor concentrates on certain line goods and becomes and expert merchant of that particular line

4. Department store

Retail store into a departmental
System and under one roof with consolidated ownership and management of many of merchandise

Advantages of Department store
Shopping convenience and facilities that they offer Can buy in a large quantities at favorable terms
Services that they offer in the form of credit attract many costumers
Specialization personel

Disadvantages of department store

High cost operation
Traffic difficulties due to central location

5. Super market

Basically grocery stores but usually have departments selling non-food items ONE-STOP SHOPPING CENTER

Advantages of super market

Has a large buying power and can sell low prices
Offer a wide variety of merchandise

Disadvantage of super market

Impersonal relations between storeowner and costumer
Intensified completion by other types of store

6. Kadiwa centers
