Classification of Hardware
Hardware is the electronic and mechanical devices that process data. These include both on-board and peripheral devices. Some basic hardware components are:
Input Devices
-keyboard
-mouse
Processing Devices
-memory
-processor or CPU
Storage Devices
-hard drive
-floppy disk
-CD-ROM, CD-RW, and DVD Discs
Output Devices
-monitor
-printer
-Speakers
Classification of Software
Software is a set of instructions that tells the computer how to perform a particular task, how to interact with the user and how to process the user’s data. Software is often divided into board types—Operating System Program and Productivity applications.
Operating System
-co-ordinate activities within the computer
-controls basic inputs and output
-allocates system resources
-manages storages space
-detects equipment failure
-maintains security
-ensures adequate space for running programs
Productivity Applications
-is a software that performs a specific task or function, such as word processing, creation of spreadsheets, generation of graphics, facilitating electronic mail and browsing the World Wide Web on the Internet.
