Class Reimbursement
University of Cincinnati offers a course called Writing for Business. The purpose of this course is to help students to professionalize their writing skills through presentation and discussion of the key elements of good business writing such as planning, style, audience awareness, punctuation and language choice. The class contents includes also analyzing and practice writing a range of documents including professional correspondence, business reports, tenders and proposals. Furthermore, it helps students to think through a writing task, adapt typical patterns of organization to each situation's requirements, generate effective content, make good document-design decisions, and write with an appropriate and flexible style so that they can achieve their intended effect with their readers.
This course will help me to recognize and to analyze effective and ineffective business communication, which will increase the quality of the communication with our clients and upper management. For instance, writing business memos are important to effectively send out a mass message to a department or to individual people, with directions on new policies and procedures. This will both save time and money by not creating more unnecessary meetings, and to reinforce information that had been previously mentioned.
The course also teaches me how to prepare documents that are appropriate for and that appeal to various audiences. That will help to improve marketing skills and to write letters appropriate for each type of client. For example, each week we send around 100 letters to our clients and prospective customers, by using effective letters this will increase our appeal to prospective customers, and also help retain our current clients.
In addition to all the values I can receive from the course, after the completion, I will be able to train other employees on how to write effectively, recognize business strategies for effective communication, and to increase a company’s impact from the lessons I will learn in the Writing for Business course.
In order for me to attend this very beneficial course, our department needs to provide $490 for my tuition, which is a small amount in comparison to the potential return on investment.

A few of the skills learned are including, but not limited to the appropriate ways of communicating depending on the audience, e-mail and business letter writing etiquette and also the importance of unbiased speaking in the workplace.
