THE CIVIL WAR:WHY DID TEXANS FIGHT? THE CIVIL WAR WAS A SAD TIME FOR TEXANS AND AMERICANS, AS IT DIVIDED THE COUNTRY INTO TWO OPPOSING SIDES.BETWEEN 1861 AND 1865, 75,000 TEXANS WENT TO WAR.WHAT WERE THE REASONS TEXAS FOUGHT FOR THE SOUTH IN THE CIVIL WAR.TEXANS WENT TO WAR STATES' RIGHTS,TO DEFEND THE STATE THEY LOVE AND TO PERSERVE SLAVERY. ONE REASON TEXANS FOUGHT FOR THE SOUTH IN THE CIVIL WAR WAS FOR STATES' RIGHTS.THE TEXAS STATE GASETTE EDITORAIL, IT SUPPORTS THE RIGHT OF SECESSION BECAUSE IT STATES, "NO STATE CAN FORCE ANOTHER STATE EITHER TO REMAIN IN IT OR WITHDRAW FROM IT".THIS EVIDENCE SHOWS THAT TEXANS WENT TO WAR BECAUSE THEY FELT THAT THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT CAN'T TELL THEM WHAT TO DO. A SECOND REAS0N TEXANS FOUGHT IN THE CIVIL WAR WAS BECAUSE OF THEIR LOVE FOR TEXAS.IN RABB'S LETTER HE SAYSS THAT HE WILL ONLY MARRY IN TEXAS.IN A SECOND LETTER HE MENTIONS BEING WORRIED ABOUT YANKS INVADING TEXAS.THIS EVDENCE SHOWS THAT TEXANS WENT TO WAR BECAUSE RABB SHOWS CONCERNS OF FAMILY AND WHAT HAPPENS IN TEXAS. THE THIRD REASON TEXANS FOUGHT IN THE CIVIL WAR WAS TO PERSERVE SLAVERY.SOME ECONOMIC FEARS THAT LED SLAVER-OWNING TEXANS TO FIGHT FOR THE SOUTH WERE, A)LOSING MONEY, INVESTED SLAVES AND B)HAVING TO FIND FREE OR CHEAP LABOR.THIS EVIDENCE SHOWS THAT TEXANS WENT TO WAR BECAUSE IT WOULD HIT THE WHITE OWNERS DEEP. STATES' RIGHT,TO DEFEND THE STATE THEY LOVE,AND TO PERSERVE SLAVERY WERE THE REASONS TEXANS FOUGHT FOR THW SOUTH IN THE CIVIL WAR.IN MY OPINION THE NUMBER ONE REASIN THAT JUSTIFIED TEXANS TO FIGHT FOR THE SOUTH IN THE CIVIL WAR WAS BECAUSE TEXANS WANTED TO DEFEND THE STATE THE LOVE.TEXANS FELT THAT THE UNION CAN'T TELL THEM WHAT TO DO.     They depended greatly on the North for their industries and factories, because they had very few. They also opposed federal spending on internal improvements and they wanted no tariffs. Even despite having a somewhat weak economy, the South wanted to gain their independence to become their own country, and to have their own way of life, which included slavery as legal. Many felt that these compromises were unfair and biased. The South felt that their way of life and views on slavery were right and just.
