M2 Analyse the effectiveness of legal and humanitarian measures to protect citizens in the UK.
Human Rights Act: This act was passed through parliament in 1998 but it was not cooperated into the UK law until 1 October 2000.
Police and Criminal Evidence (PACE) Act: This piece of legislation makes safeguards against the misuse of police powers.
Data Protection Act: This is the main piece of legislation that protects personal information and data in the UK. Things such as your address, credit history/financial information and medical problems all come under this.
Freedom of information Act: It has now been made possible for the general public to request information from and held by the public services. Basically the public services are more open with the information they collect. But some request can be denied depending if the information affects the rights of others.
Equal Pay Act: This supports the idea of it being unlawful to discriminate. It also recognises the equal contribution of women in the work place and in the public services.
Sex Discrimination Act: This supports the idea of it being unlawful to discriminate against someone on their sex or marital status in recruitment and training in the work place.
Race Relations Act 1976 this is very similar to the sex discrimination Act. It supports the idea of it being unlawful to discriminate against race, colour, nationality and ethnic origin.
Disability Discrimination Act: It allows employers to make reasonable adjustments to premises.
Employment Equality Regulations: this is discriminating against employees based on their sexual orientation or their religious beliefs.
