CIPD Change
Nationwide Building Society is the world largest building society; they have just recently taken over three UK building societies which include the Cheshire, Dunfermline and Derbyshire. By the end of November 2014 all three Building Societies were fully integrated into Nationwide. Through this massive change Nationwide has still remained number one for customer service in 2014/2015 also being rated number six in the Sunday Times top 100 best companies to work for.
Why Organisations Need Change
Every successful company has to deal with big and small changes within their organisation. Nationwide has to change due to many different reasons. The most important reason is there customers; Nationwide is well known for giving excellent customer service. As Nationwide doesn’t have any shareholders, customers have a massive impact on the organisation meaning they listen to want their members want and change accordingly to remain number one.
Internal and External Factors that Drive and Influence Change
Every organisation goes through change which is influenced by internal and external factors.
Internal Changes
Restructure- (Transitional)
MC ( Not in call centres)- (Incremental)
Bonus- (Transitional)
External Changes
Paternity leave (Transformational (Radical)
England Base rate – (Transitional)
Technology - (Transformational (Radical)

Internal factors of organisations are generally under control of the company, take restructure for example. Nationwide had a massive restructure in there HR department separating recruitment and resourcing. Employees didn’t have the final decision on which senior they worked under, this restructure driven a lot of employees to work harder to get recognised by new senior. Another internal factor that affected Nationwide was the decision to hire Mortgage Consultants within their call centres. For a very long time banks and Building Society’s only had Mortgage Consultants in branches which affected a lot of people who worked the normal 9-5
