Abstract

Technology is constantly changing and as a result businesses have to remain flexible, which may entail them changing the way they operate. With the rapid changing businesses conditions, Technology is constantly changing requiring businesses to be able to be flexible . As our world learn to focus on ways In the face of rapidly changing business conditions and continuously evolving IT, however, organizations have yet to learn how to develop an effective IT strategy

The purpose of the paper is to discuss the role of the CIO in effective information technology strategic planning through corporate governace. This paper discuss the various functions in which the CIO must fulfill and be proficiency in when it comes to aligning IT based on the organization’s strategic plan. But in order for the CIO to be successful, it is important that the organization has a strategic plan that identifies its mission and vision so that the CIO can be successful at aligning IT with the organization’s needs. Some functions of the CIO has changed over the course of the years. Some of these functions include such thing as aligning IT with the business strategy, strategic planning, ensuring customer management

    This case analysis discusses the findings in the article ‘Avoiding the Alignment Trap’, where even though most companies are aware that IT must be aligned with business strategy in terms of aligning IT expenses with revenue growth, over 11% of companies that align IT with business strategy spend more than 13% on average on IT expenses with a resulting of less than 14% average in revenue growth.     There are many advantages of aligning business and IT strategies. For most companies aligning the business and IT a strategy are both a necessity and gives a competitive advantage. Alignment can exist if the directional aspects of IT strategy are driven by the business strategy.
