Cibac
OVERVIEW
Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) is a nationwide party-list organization “dedicated to fighting graft, corruption and cronyism” in all levels of government. It represents the youth, women, overseas contract workers and the urban and rural poor. The group’s acronym is a play on letters for the vernacular word “sibak”, which means to chop off or to remove.
CIBAC has been approved by the COMELEC to run for Party List congressional seats in the May 2010 elections. Its nominees for the 2010 polls are Cinchona Cruz-Gonzales and Emmanuel Villanueva, who held the party-list's seats in the 14th Congress. The latter is the son of Presidential standard-bearer of the Bangon Pilipinas Movement Eddie Villanueva. The third nominee of the party is Armi Borje, a lawyer.
CIBAC can be reached at the congressional offices of its representatives in the Lower House.

PLATFORMS AND OBJECTIVES
CIBAC advocates transparency in government and seeks to expose and prosecute corrupt public officials. In reforming the government, it hopes to enable government agencies to regain misappropriated public funds to be able to function and provide the services they are supposed to give. In doing so, it hopes to reestablish public trust in good government.

ACHIEVEMENTS
CIBAC representatives have authored and co-authored several House Bills and Resolutions, including a Bill establishing the Bambang National High School in Bulacan. They also passed the Civil Aviation Authority Act of 2008, the University of the Philippines Charter of 2007, the Magna Carta for Women, and the Anti-Torture Act of 2008, as well as the Pre-Need Code of the Philippines and the Anti-Red Tape Bill, in accordance with CIBAC's focus on fighting corruption and pushing for transparency.
CIBAC representatives also authored anti-corruption bills which are still pending in Congress. Among them are the Anti-Corruption Whistleblowers and Witnesses Act of 2008 and the Freedom of Access to Information Bill, as

Corruption is lurking around the corner, waiting for the perfect time to pounce on innocent people. Abuse of power is everywhere, like cockroaches hiding under your couch, once you see one you know they’re everywhere. Watch out, keep your wits about you and don’t trust anybody. Many superior people are taking advantage of their role and in a bad way. Do you really want people we should be able to trust being corrupt behind our backs? The book Trash by Andy Mulligan outlines the problems people face dealing with corruption and abuse of power. It includes various examples of inequality, immoral behaviour and abuse of power. Sadly this wretched behaviour is often found in many countries, and many people face it on a daily basis. Who knew somebody could learn so much from a fictional novel.…

This story sheds light on political corruption that takes place behind closed doors. Rufus Okeke was a popular man, and he was also one of Marcus Ibe's campaign boys. The story starts to take a sharp turn when the leader of the Progressive Organization Party (POP) visits Rufus. The leader of the POP places five pounds on the floor and tells Roof that they need his vote. At this point, Rufus is already convinced, and he is ready to submit to the hands of bribery. All these acts performed by the people involved in the campaign makes me wonder whether they care for the betterment of everyone in the community, or if they only care to fulfill their own selfish…

For example, in Bai Ganyo: Incredible Tales of a Modern Bulgarian, Bai Ganyo treads into the realm of abuse by using his political position to bribe the Bulgarian police. Instead of using his connections and power to satisfy the needs of the Bulgarian people, he uses his position to terrorize voters and stuff ballot boxes (Konstantinov, 103-121). Unlike Bai Ganyo, who blatantly uses his state-granted power to further himself, Mourad’s colleagues in Corruption extend the flexibility given to them by the state by manipulating the building-plan approval process. Offering to expedite the approval process as opposed to delaying and denying, Mourad’s colleagues obtain bribes. While these “services” are not explicitly changing the underlying nature of their jobs, Mourad’s colleagues utilize their power for a purpose inconsistent with the interests of the state (Jelloun, 1-28).…

The mass media refers to diversified media technologies that are intended to reach a large audience by mass communication. The technology through which this communication takes place varies. Broadcast media such as radio, recorded music, film and television transmit their information electronically. Print media use a physical object such as a newspaper, book, pamphlet or comics, to distribute their information. Outdoor media is a form of mass media that comprises billboards, signs or placards placed inside and outside of commercial buildings, sports stadiums, shops and buses. Public speaking and event organising can also be considered as forms of mass media. The digital media comprises both Internet and mobile mass communication. Internet media provides many mass media services, such as email, websites, blogs, and internet based radio and television. Many other mass media outlets have a presence on the web, by such things as having TV ads that link to a website, or distributing a QR Code in print or outdoor media to direct a mobile user to a website. In this way, they can utilise the easy accessibility that the Internet has, and the outreach that Internet affords, as information can easily be broadcast to many different regions of the world simultaneously and cost-efficiently.…
