Chuck Klosterman As A Satire
In the article “Can I use the same paper for multiple college courses?”, by Chuck Klosterman. When I was in college, I'd sometimes compose a single paper that would satisfy assignments in more than one course. I once composed a paper on how "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" expressed satire; I submitted it for assignments in both my poetry course and also my totally isolate satire course. When I impart this to the people, half call the practice cheating, and the other half call it smart. Was this a moral practice, or would i say i was tricking? JOE, CONNECTICUT As I read and reread this question, I get myself focused on the thought this must be dishonest, some way or another. Guess what? The more I thoroughly consider this, the more I

There are many views surrounding the Charlie Hebdo firebombing from January 7th. Many journalists from sources such as The Guardian, FOX News, and the New York Times say that the shooting of cartoonists in defense of religious beliefs is unethical and immoral. However, these approaches to the issue of freedom of speech presented by the Hebdo cartoons, which portray the Muslim prophet Mohammed in derogatory and lewd sketches, are represented quite differently by Joe Sacco in his comic titled On Satire. In this comic, Sacco demonstrates his opinion on the issue of freedom of speech by showing how offensive the material was that Hebdo had published. This was easily…

The Daily Show is a source of controversy when its affect on democracy is analyzed. Some critics, like Roderick P. Hart and E. Johanna Hartelius who wrote “The Political Sins of Jon Stewart”, believe that Jon Stewart and his use of cynicism are harmful to Democracy. Conversely, Robert Harriman who wrote “In Defense of Jon Stewart” concedes that Jon Stewart is a cynic “for [the purpose] of coming to the key point of judgment” (274) although he considers Jon Stewart a helpful defender of democracy rather than a harmful offender. Similarly, Lisa Colletta the author of “Political Satire and Postmodern Irony in the Age of Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart” feels that satire, rather than cynicism, which she believes is the form of rhetoric that Jon Stewart uses, is beneficial to democracy. In all, through an analysis of Roderick P. Hart and E. Johanna Hartelius’ “The Political Sins of Jon Stewart”, Robert Harriman’s “In Defense of Jon Stewart”, and Lisa Colletta’s “Political Satire and Postmodern Irony in the Age of Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart” I feel that Jon Stewart’s use of satire on The Daily Show is constructive for democracy.…

A special word about plagiarism is in order. Plagiarism includes submitting a paper written in part or whole by someone else, using or quoting in your paper someone else’s words or ideas without giving proper credit, and permitting someone else to use your work in this way or doing their work for them. Using the same material for more than one course without express permission from all instructors will carry the same penalty as plagiarism. If any of you hands in written work that is plagiarized, you will receive a failing grade on the assignment. If in my judgment the offense warrants it, you will also receive a failing grade for the course. In addition, I will notify the appropriate administrators of your case, which may result in further…

An artist that has influenced my work greatly is Chuck Close. I learned about him when I was in fourth grade and he has maintained a lasting effect on me since. A couple of pieces I remember seeing at the time include Frank and Big Self Portrait. I was enthralled by both his personal life dealing with his prosopagnosia and dyslexia and his large-scale artwork. Seeing the sheer amount of intricacy and effort put into both his drawings and paintings molded my ideals into detailing and realism.…
