The following is a case study analysis of a 60 year old male with acute on chronic prostatitis. Prostatitis is a common disorder in males affecting approximately 50% of men in the United States at some point in their lifetime. Primary care nurse practitioners have a crucial role in screening for, diagnosing, and treating prostate disease, including prostatitis and screening for prostate cancer, as well as making referrals to other services. Every year, approximately 2 million physician visits include the diagnosis of prostatitis.
