In the movie “Erin Brockovich” the main character, Erin gets a case that she gets involved in. Once she does enough research and finds out some details about the women that had been affected by chromium VI, or also known as Hexavalent chromium, through the water around her house such as the pool that her children swim in. She realizes it’s a much bigger case and many people have been affected by it so she takes on PG&E. Her and her partner, Edward Masry sues them on behalf of the people that have been affected by chromium VI. Erin has many people to help her win but only a few believe that she can do it since the company is a very large but she needs 90% of the people that were affected by the hexavalent chromium. Erin’s life changes a lot throughout the two years that she works on the case; she gives up a lot in her personal to do what’s right and try to prove to everyone that she can do something with her life. But since she has spent so much time and effort on the case she doesn’t take it in a negative way but try to help the people who were affected in a personal way. Erin discovers that the chromium got into people’s water through the employees that poured their factory toxicants into a pond that led to where people’s water came from. Erin sues because the chromium was polluted in the water that humans were exposed which PG&E knew about. Chromium VI could be used for chrome plating, dyes and pigments, leather and wood preservation. As said in the movie, chromium III is not harmful at all to humans though, it is actually helpful. It can be found in things we eat every day such as many vegetables, fruits, meats, grains and yeast. The effects that chromium VI has on humans are things like uterus cancer, asthma, chronic nose bleeds, tumors, miscarriages, rashes, gastrointestinal cancer, headaches, heart failures, liver failures and any other type of cancer.
