Christopher Ree Speech Analysis
In 1996 Christopher Reeve (a.k.a. Superman) spoke at the Democratic National Convention to persuade his audience that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is important. In his speech he used a considerable amount of diction and details. He used these devices to really make the audience not just hear but listen and then care. They obviously cared enough because later on that act was passed. First, he says, ?family values? then he says ?we?re all family? I believe he says this to make the audience feel like everyone matters, including people with disabilities. If we are all family then we need to care for eachother. Next, Reeves states, ?achieve the impossible? and he supports this by saying, ?That?s what got us from coast to coast.

During Cardinal Wolsey’s reflective soliloquy, he gives a thorough reaction to his recent loss of position as advisor to the King. Shakespeare utilizes figurative language that compares his plight to nature, biblical allusions, and varying tones to portray Wolsey’s view of career conundrum. Wolsey’ speech is written with thought to each stage of feeling: denial, acceptance, and finally dismay. By the end of the speech, it is evident that Wolsey is at an all time low, with an overly pessimistic view of his future endeavors.…

The Presidential Election of 1986 between the Republican William McKinley and Democrat William Jennings Bryan, is thought to be one of the most impressive and complicated presidential elections in all of American History. One of the major highlights of the election was William Jennings Bryan’s “Cross of Gold” speech that sparked the people’s interest for the Democratic representative. This speech not only had a firm and well defined meaning, but its delivery was also delivered superbly. The speech itself was concerned with many problems, such as growing class divisions that later were the cause of many violent outbursts among the people. Money was the most prominent concern for the people in 1896 because of high employment rates and the fact that they were recovering from a few years of depression. The…

I attended a speech by Dr. Eric Polley about his effort to create a computer algorithm program to match the type of cancer based on biomarkers to the optimal treatment. Even though some of the information went way over my head I did understand most of his speech. Today there are so many drugs that have been developed to help people battle cancer, but each drug only works with specific types of cancer. There are also countless types of cancer with each tumor being different from the rest. His goal was to create a way to match patients with the correct drug to increase their survival. His hope was that he could create a computer program that would pick the optimal treatment more often than a doctor just picking a treatment based on the tissue…

To positively promote physical activity for individuals with disabilities at a community and population level, misconceptions and attitudinal barriers must first be addressed. The way society views individuals with disabilities effects how programs are developed to meet their needs. In her speech, Aimee Mullins stated that people tend to perform in the manner that other people expect them to perform. Many community members view individuals with disabilities as being unable to perform up to the same standards as their typically developing peers. For this reason, they are often pitied, patronized, or overprotected by well-meaning individuals. They are not challenged to seek out the avenues of change that will allow them to adapt to the adversities…

William Shakespeare is widely regarded as one of the most influential playwrights in history. Believed to have first been performed in 1600, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar quickly gained recognition, and has been recognized since as one of Shakespeare’s more famous works. The play revolves around its three central characters, Julius Caesar, Mark Anthony, and Brutus. In the play Mark Anthony delivers one of the most famous speeches ever given; better known as the "Friends, Romans, Countrymen" speech. This speech is delivered right after the assassination of Julius Caesar, and is the second memorial speech spoken to the Roman plebeians, Brutus’ being the first. It is a subtle entreaty to embolden the citizen’s of Rome to avenge Caesar’s death, revealing Mark Anthony’s true repugnance toward the conspirators because of what he sees as their murder of Caesar, and what they see as a heroic deed. A moving speech, the impact of the “Friends, Romans, Countrymen” speech was so powerful partially because of Antony’s skill as an orator, and partially because of the strong rhetorical strategies of appeals to logos and pathos, repetition, verbal irony, style and tone.…
