Though Christopher Columbus was considered to be the "discoverer of America” when we were in primary school, many of us have grown up with the familiar thought that Christopher Columbus got the green light for his journey and then the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria set sail. The trouble is, that America, as we understand it today, was quite well occupied by the time Columbus hit the new world. While we might have learned in history lessons that Christopher Columbus "discovered America" in 1492, we also know that the American continents had actually been inhabited by Native Americans for centuries before Columbus arrived. In fact, Christopher Columbus wasn't even the first European to reach America. About 500 years before Columbus, a group of Vikings, reached the North American shores and left a settlement on the island of modern-day Newfoundland.
On the other hand, many people think that Christopher Columbus was the worst thing that could have ever happened to America. According to Kenneth C. Davis who is an historian his arrival "marked the beginning of one of the cruelest episodes in human history"
In my opinion, we cannot say anything like Columbus voyages were the worst thing or the best thing. When we don’t say “I wish this were not so”, we can be more happy. The past has stayed in past. We should think about our future. So I don’t agree with people who think like Christopher Columbus was the worst people. However, I agree with the opinion that Columbus was not the first person who discovered America. The Vikings were the first. I have read a range of book and article so I believe this idea totally.

Those who could not handle the harsh conditions of Columbus’s labor were killed, and those who survived lived to suffer another day.
