Christmas Tradition
1. I believe Christmas season is a season to celebrate Jesus' birth. I think that giving others presents shows Jesus giving freedom and forgiveness to us.

2. I would want to give them something that they would treasure for the rest of their lives. It depends on the person and what I can give. If someone asks for love, I'll give them love because it will last longer than giving someone a toy (because eventually, you will outgrow it). I would give it to those who need it. Not those who desperately want it for themselves and their greediness, but instead, for those who would take my gift as something they would take to the heart. God sees things differently so I try too. I try to think of things outside of the box instead of to one's mind (currently I'm giving out birthday gifts to those who impact my life).

What Child Is This?; It tells about Jesus, specifically, and who he is. I do not like to listen to songs that talk only about Santa (like Jingle Bells) because Santa is not the true reason why we celebrate Christmas. My mother believes that Santa takes away the true purpose of Christmas, making children think that Santa is everything and what the presents symbolize. I do not agree or disagree to this statement but do take it to heart and

The world is asked to accept the manifestation of God’s love, not in abstract terms, but in the full presence of a man in “our image and likeness,” one who can weep, suffer, bleed and die. This is the mystery that is shown to the world in the revelation of Jesus Christ, and Christmas believe it with awe, love and joy. The child in Mary’s arms is the Lord, the Son of God, and the one who holds the keys of…

Hey Virginia, there is more than just a Santa Claus. Nowadays, Americans have either forgotten or ignored Christmas traditions put in place over 1500 years ago. They would rather indulge in the gifts and shopping to please their family than sit back and enjoy the holiday. This new mindset has led Christmas, Hanukkah, and other seasonal festivals to lose their religious intent through the past centuries by the hands of both people and markets. The original purpose of Christmas, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, has been trampled and overshadowed by a marketeer’s interpretation of how to represent the holiday. Santa and snowmen have become the faces of Christmas, instead of the Son…

While people worship the Santa Claus, religions focus more on their origins. Christmas is a time to sit back and have a good time whether it be opening presents, or talking about the true meaning of Christmas. What a lot of people fail to realize is that for some religions they don’t follow the traditional Christmas standards. Many questions are being asked as in, what exactly goes on during the most wonderful time of the year? Do you have traditions that specifically fit into your lifestyle? What does Christmas mean to you? Are they grateful for being who you are?…

    Evolution Of Christmas

Winston Churchill once said, “Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection.” As the big day draws near, it is important to reflect on the roots of the global holiday as well as the direction in which it is heading. Christmas is a tradition rooted deep in the history of western society. It has undergone many changes since it’s earliest celebrations. Even today, the holiday is constantly changing. Each year brings new innovations to Christmas. In the dawn of the holiday, it was minor and focused on the birth of Jesus, the light of the world. In the 19th century, Christmas was a time of family and goodwill to mankind. Today, though there still remains aspects of religion and selflessness, more than ever it has become a holiday consumed by commercialism. It is a development that is not likely to go way any time soon.…

With all the traditions that come with this time of year, there is one in particular that my friends and I have not celebrated since we started having kids and the holidays became all about them (thanks for ruining Christmas, kids). Every year, after the Rockefeller Center tree went up, we would gather as many of us as we could and venture into New York City. Some years we had as many as forty people; friends of friends added to the crowd. Our tradition was to first go down to Greenwich Village for a few drinks then uptown to Rockefeller Center, fighting holiday crowds all along the way. Afterwards we would cross over 5th avenue and go into St. Patrick's Cathedral for the pageantry that was Christmas.…

    Thanksgiving Tradition

    • 292 Words

Tradition is something I have seen die out through my life. As I have gotten older, traditions have become less important. I believe this is one of the biggest problems in our society today, and I think this has direct correlation with our weakening morals. The most important tradition still in my life is probably Thanksgiving dinner. Every year Thanksgiving is held at my grandparent's house and we eat the same food every time. The same family members are always there and there are always beautiful decorations placed around the house. This tradition fits Glassie's definition because this is a part of history for my family and I, and how we celebrate Thanksgiving now shapes how we will celebrate is in the future. Our family's culture is shaped…

James Martin (2011) states that no matter your religious beliefs — whether you’re devout, doubtful or downright atheist — you’re probably familiar with the Christmas story. From carols streaming through shopper-clogged malls to families trimming their trees, the holiday is ever-present at this time of year. But its history, significance and traditions are sometimes misunderstood. Let’s clarify what the yuletide is all about.…

    Keep Christ in Christmas

    • 340 Words

Jesus our King is our reason for Christmas, but merchants and television have torn us away from this idea. To keep Christ in Christmas things must be done, for instance quickly scrawling Merry X-mas on a card is totally against the idea, although more convenient then writing Christmas it suggests that Christmas is not a Christen holiday. Christmas is a time for presents and T.V. specials to little kids, it could be taught to them that it's not what you get, but what you give in the first place. I no for a fact that Jesus died to save us, and not get praise from God, or to get us to follow Him, He received crucifixion willingly to save all races, in all nations, and for all ages. So giving secretly to the poor, the sick, or people you try to tolerate your being like Him, by giving to all no matter what. When decorating outside on your lawn don't just put Frost and Santa and the reindeer, add a Nativity Scene to remind you and all that pass your house that you know what Christmas is truly about. And inside your house all Christmassy as is may be remember on your tree at the top that, angel or star you place so delicately think of why you use those images. Maybe that symbolizes the one that lit the way to Bethlehem where in the manger Christ slept, or that angel signifies the one Mary saw who told her she was to give the birth to Child King, or the one who told the Shepard's and kings about Jesus being born in Bethlehem. When in school remember to keep in your hearts forever what you learn in religion class about Advent and Christmas so you can others like some protestant neighbors and maybe in the light of season they'll come back to our church. When you give gifts remember the look on the recipients faces because that is the best Christmas of…

The holiday Christmas has traditionally represented the birth of Jesus Christ. Christians worldwide have celebrated December 25 as their God’s birthday; however, Christians have held no historical significance to the holiday. Most customs involved in Christmas have originated from ancient pagan celebrations. The customs have dated back to events like Saturnalia and the Unconquered Sun, proving the ideas stemmed from pagan roots not Christian.…

While sitting table after gorging on the offerings of Thanksgiving, it was time to fulfill a family tradition reminiscent of my mother’s 90’s new-age phase, we all take a moment to awkwardly attempt to put to all we are thankful for into a thirty-second monolog. When the warmth of the spotlight focused on me, I let the estrogen flow, disregard the patience of the less sensitive family seated at the table, and started in on this long-winded exposé on how each of the women before me gives me all that I’m thankful for. It was upon the conclusion of my verbose explanation on all my mother does for me, that she took this opportunity to tell of how she shares with every mother she encounters the story of, if it wasn’t for her, I might not be sitting with us today.…

I always know it is Thanksgiving morning when I awake to the smell of the turkey roasting in the oven and the cinnamon apple spice tea brewing on the stove. The rest of the morning is spent helpingmy mom and grandmother cooking in our large open kitchen. Every year for as long as I can remember, my grandmother uses my Nana’s recipies when cooking the thick butter garlic mashed potatoes, homemade sweet red cranberry sauce, and the rich creamy dark gravy. On the other hand, my mom and I always cook the french green beans, sausage and bread stuffing, and also our homemade pumpkin pie together. While the women spend most of the early afternoon in the kitchen getting things ready, the men normally gather in the living room and watch sports or play a board game on the coffee table. It is a rule in our house that no man is allowed in the kitchen while we are cooking unless he is coming to help with dishes; otherwise the men eat all the food as it is being prepared.…

Presents are what everyone wants for Christmas. The most enjoying thing on Christmas is not receiving presents, but giving presents to a person in need. When you receive a gift, you’re all happy, but it doesn’t compare when you give a gift. When that person received the gift you gave to them they are happy and smile as big as they can. Christmas is not about receiving it’s about giving things to people that need it.…
