Our world is constantly changing and creating new and unique religions. Throughout the semester our World Religions class has studied several of the most common religions that are practiced today. Two religions that I have found particularly interesting are Judaism and Confucianism. Judaism was one of the common religions that we had previously learned about in class. However, Confucianism is a religion that was not taught in class but was a religion that I had wanted to learn more about. In this essay I will explain more about Confucianism and its origin, teachings, practices, and current status in today’s world as well as explain how Confucianism and Judaism are different and how they are similar.…
Judaism is, of course, much older that Christianity but there are still many similarities. Whilst Jews do not consider Christ to be the Savior, they do believe him to be a prophet (Helium, Inc., 2002-2011). Another historical connection and similarity can be described by the fact that, according to Christian teachings, Jesus and many of his followers were originally Jewish and, therefore, the basic teachings of Christianity will be more or less equal to those of Judaism. Both religions are monotheistic, which means they believe in only one God and both of these Gods are described very similarly. Both believe in the stories of characters such as Abraham discouraging people from worshipping the idols sold by his father and Moses freeing the Israelites from Egyptian rule (Helium, Inc., 2002-2011). Christianity and Judaism both believe in the afterlife and a “Messiah”. Christians believe the Messiah is Jesus Christ and the Jews do not believe in Jesus Christ. Jews believe that there will be a new coming of the Messiah. This Messiah will be a descendant from the house of David, while Christians believe that the original Messiah (Jesus Christ) will one day return. There is also a historical…
A few similarities between Christianity and Judaism is that they both were founded in Palestine, believe in spiritual beings such as angels and demons, ultimate reality- one God, Jehovah, and the God of Abraham, and the crucifixion of Jesus.…
All religions are very specific with the details which set that religion apart from others. However, when all the little details are melted away, there are only a mere handful that are different in essence. When looked at closely, even the religions which are perceived completely dissimilar at first glance are surprisingly similar. For example, the Voodoo religion, and that of early Christianity are stereotyped as extremely different, but with closer inspection, not only are these two religions are very obviously similar, but Voodooism stemmed, partly, out of Christianity. Both religions revolve around a mortal individual being used as a mouthpiece by a higher, being, be it spirit or god, to communicate with our mortal world. Yet at the same time, each religion has taken it's own path and although equivalent in essence, have very different aspects with respect to background (such as time and status), as well as publicity, and language.…
Christianity and Judaism are two of the most similar religions in the world. With many similarities such as sacred writings, the place where the religions originated, and the images and items they worship. There is no denying that these two religions share some similarities. This is to be expected, as Judaism strongly influenced the creation of Christianity. So much so that Judaism is sometimes called the original Christianity because Christianity derived from Judaism. Many sacred writings are very similar in Christianity and Judaism and are a highly important part for both religions.…
There are hundreds of different religions practiced all over the world. Christianity and Judaism are two religions with similar origins, but varying beliefs, practices and teachings. With many comparable components, I will decipher the difference between the two goals of religion, life after death, and the direction of prayer.…
Islam shares more similarities with Christianity than one might think. Both religions believe in only one god with similar traits, the men Moses and Jesus as important figures, and have roots in Judaism. However, Islam also has many differences. The primary figure of Islam is the Prophet Muhammad who received God’s final message through the Archangel Gabriel. Muhammad’s teachings and way of life are included in the Qur’an, which is the Islamic holy book. With the support of his wife and his uncle, Chief Abu Talib, Muhammad avoided persecution from the people of Mecca. After they died, he was forced to leave to the city of Medina due to pressures of polytheistic Meccan merchants that were threatened by his teachings. This move is called the…
In our society from the earliest times to now there has been religion. And these religions consisted of people who had a voice in how the organization in a way viewed something. In views and opinions there are both disagreeing parts and parts that agree. Christianity and Islam both had agreeing and disagreeing views on merchants. The higher classmen of Christianity and Islam agree and the scholars agree with each other, but the underclassmen of these religions disagree.…
Religion has and always will be one of the major forces that drives and has constantly shaped our world. Throughout the centuries wars have been fought, laws have been created, countries and towns have been built and demolished all to protect or to make known a religion. In this paper I will examine the characteristics of the three major Western religions of the world including Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. The origin of all three religions will be covered as well as there view of God and several conflicts they have. Several beliefs such as judgment and the trinity will also be examined..…
The origins of Christianity can be originated in Judaism and for that reason it is no surprise that both religions have many beliefs in common. During the earliest beginnings, Christianity was a part of Judaism, but currently they are two distinct communities. However, they are bound together by their belief in one God and to worship any other is to deny Him. The separation between both religions did not happen fast or easy. The entire division took some hundred years and the very complex separation didn’t happen all at once.…
Judaism and Christianity developed on the basis of obeying god, adherence to his rules and intention, and their faithful fulfillment. Since the fulfillment of God’s will is a duty of a Jewish or Christian person, both religions fall into the rule-deontological category. Although each sect has a different perspective on teaching and beliefs, they have one common thread: the belief in a singular deity. Both religions are monotheistic with a holy text and both strive to conquer evil. The origin of theses religions both come from the Middle East: Judaism coming from the tribe of Judah (one of the 12 sons of Jacob) and Christianity from Jesus’ title “Christos”, which is Greek for Messiah. Each religion is very similar with only some of the beliefs and teaching being different. In Judaism, God is seen as having a contracted relationship with the Jewish people, where they must obey his holy laws in return for their status of the chosen people. In parts of the Old Testament, God shows mercy and forgiveness, and in later interpretations of God’s laws, such as the Ten Commandments, are followed not only out of loyalty to God, but also because of their high moral character. In Christianity, the emphasis is placed on the love of God rather than obeying his will. People much believe that God is merciful and loves them as well. As a reflection of God’s love, people must also love one another and forgive their enemies. Christians practice peace and non-violence, return good for evil, and love for suffering (“turn the other cheek”). They also give separate messages to outsiders as to what the religions stand for. Christians basically just sin, repent, and then are forgiven for their sins, whereas Judaism is a system of sanctification in which all is to be subsumed under God’s rule. Christianity and Judaism are very similar in some ways and vary drastically in…
<br>Christianity has the largest world's cultural, religious and political development. As same as Judaism and Islam, Christianity is also monotheistic. People who follow the religion Christianity are known as Christians. Christians follow the teachings of a man named Jesus, who was born in Palestine in about A.D. 30. Through the belief in Jesus, people believe that humanity can achieve salvation. Judaism and Christianity are quite similar. The teachings of Jesus were rooted in Jewish tradition. For example, Jesus accepted the Ten Commandments that God had given to the Jews through Moses; he preached new ideas at the same time. Also, like the Torah from Judaism, the Bible was the Christianity's…
Judaism and Christianity are similar both historically and theologically. Since Judaism is considered the parent religion of Christianity, they share a Bible, religious practices, morals, holy sites, and religious practices.…
Christianity and Hinduism are two diverse religions. For instance, Jesus told people to have faith in one God, although on the other hand Hinduism had many different Gods that controlled different aspects of the way the civilization lived, such as after death. The Hinduism Law states if a person has good karma than after death people will have a good afterlife. Jesus told the people that heaven is a gateway to peace after death, one can achieve heaven by following the Lord's rules so one wouldn't be a sinner.…
In the state of Telengana, India, about five hours away from any city and public transportation, is a small village called Gonga Devi Guppa. Accompanied by my translator, Hymavathi, I lived among the people for three weeks. The American culture I was raised in gifted me several prejudices against Hinduism that I was not aware of until I experienced for myself the truth about the religion. Prior to India, I viewed Hinduism barbarically despite not knowing much about it. Ironically, I experienced Hinduism first hand in a Seventh-day Adventist church—stuck squarely in the middle of the Indian plains and forests.…
