OED defines a myth as a traditional story involving supernatural beings or forces or creatures. In this sense, The Raven and the First Men by Bill Reid is a myth because it involves the raven, which is a supernatural creature that encounters the first humans. The raven is featured prominently in First Nations mythologies and coaxes the first humans out of the clamshell. As you grow up, you have always been told stories to either scare you into not doing something, like if you don't go to bed, the boogeyman will come and get you; or stories that give you hope, inspire you, make you dream, or help you to the next step in your life. You've heard these stories from your parents, your grandparents, your aunts and uncles; you've practically heard a story from everybody in your family down to the old lady who lives down the street. People just want you to learn from their mistakes or to let you know that things will always work out. Some stories are based on real life experiences while others are simply myths. A myth is defined as: "A traditional, typically ancient story dealing with supernatural beings, ancestors,…
A Myth is a traditional story, specifically one concerning early history of a people group explaining some natural phenomenon or social occurrence typically involving the supernatural. It comes from the Latin word mythus which means speech, thought, story, or anything delivered by word of mouth. Mythology is simply an attempt to answer the unknown. It implemented a sense of security to the ancients who could not explain the aspects of the universe with science or reason as we can today. These stories transformed ancient Greek and Roman cultures, creating literature, architecture and social laws. As society grew and new ideas were formed, mythology became exceedingly irrelevant. Soon Western cultures stopped worshiping a plethora of gods and replaced the fear of the unexplained with curiosity. Though the spiritual importance of mythology is irrelevant today, mythology has created the building blocks of modern society; through literature,…
Myths and history have always been associated with one another. History is the study of past events. Myths have a similar but different structure to it. Myths have no credibility, but history does-right?…

From various modes of transportation to the Mona Lisa, we see the success of other people's dreams. Things such as planes, cars, trains, books, buildings, and even graffiti were once only someone's day-dreams waiting to be brought to life. Even though they were thought of as unattainable goals by some, others had the persistence and diligence to see these dreams through until the end. Many of us only focus on the invention or work, for we fail to remember that it was once imagined. They were at one time only a figment of someone's imagination, but they turned them into a success.…
