Chris Mccandless Journey Essay
Most people believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to escape a toxic relationship with his parents, but the two real reasons why he left everything was being a rebellious young adult and literacy influences from different composers. Chris left everything towards the end of summer of 1990, and took a two year trip to anywhere. He left everything except for some essentials. McCandless wanted to return from his family after he was done with his journey. He took the journey to find himself and know the real meaning of life. Before he could get back, Chris died on August 16, 1992, and his body was found by hunters on September 6, 1992. In the book, Into The Wild, by Jon Krakauer, he elaborates Chris’s trip. Krakauer meets with the people that Chris met along his trip. Krakauer does several interviews to understand McCandless’s trip. He also followed McCandless’s journey, by going where Chris went and meeting the people he met. Throughout Krakauer’s book, he writes that there are different reason why McCandless went into the …show more content…
In the book, To Build a Fire, by Jack London, Chris mirrors the protagonist, for instance, both men ignored the advice about the winter weather in Alaska, and they both die for being unprepared. The man in To Build a Fire, only had one goal, just to meet up with his friends, as oppose to Chris. In Emerson’s essay, Nature, Chris resembles the protagonist also; both of them want to feel as if they were one with their surroundings. They both loved the idea of life within the wild.
These are the two reasons why Chris McCandless went on his two year journey. He was a very rebellious young man, that loved the meaning of life. He was also intelligent, Chris had influences from different composers. He wanted to find the meaning of life by himself. He wanted to live free from communication and other people.
