Chivalry In Thomas Malory's Morte D Arthur
Is Morte d' Arthur just a pointless story not worth reading? What lesson can someone learn from

it to apply to their lives? This novel gives more than someone would expect. It is not just an old

legend people read in literature books and see plays on. What Arthur teaches today's generation and

generations to come are qualities and concepts many in society lack: chivalry, the concept of showing

decency to those underneath the wealth, and humility.

In Thomas Malory's Morte d' Arthur Beaumin displays chivalry better than any one of the

nobleman portrayed in the story. The ironic part is that Beaumin was not even a knight. How come

Beaumin shows more chivalry than Sir Kay? The problem with Sir Kay was he only

behaved chivalrously and

For some reason

people forget or choose to ignore the fact that every man was made in God's image.

Whether they like it or not, people need to understand that everything is not about them. Nobody is

better than another man even if he is mentally disabled, a hobo on the street, or a mass murderer.

Out of the many life lessons found in Morte d' Arthur, humility outshines them all. C.S. Lewis

states, “ True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less”. Demonstrating

humility can take a person a long way in life and it is pleasing to God. For example, everything

that Beaumin asked king Arthur for, he received; the reason being, he did not demand to have any of

the items he requested. Beaumin as well never complained about the slop Sir Kay fed him and on top

of that Beaumin lowered himself by sitting with the servant boys in the kitchen. In Ephesians 4:2 it

says, “ Be completely humble and gentle: be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Like in

Ephesians 4:2, everybody needs to learn how to humble and lower himself.

All in all, the main focal point of Morte d' Arthur is to display chivalry, to tell everyone to

Dunstan is taught that in order to move forward and become successful he must reflect in himself and forgive himself for doing what all humans do. Father Blazon says “forgive yourself for being a human creature, Ramezay. That is the beginning of wisdom.” Blazon is saying that by letting go of the average mistakes Dunstan will be able to focus on what he needs to and have better knowledge of himself because he is not stuck on his small mistakes. This quote can relate to all humans because everyone needs to be able to forgive himself or herself to move past what they have done. This proves that self-reflection makes happiness more accessible because by moving past the insignificant things the spirit is able to focus on becoming greater.…

The story of the greatest king of all time has been developed over centuries. The Arthurian legend has no known author’s that can claim the original Arthurian legend however it is stated that three authors helped shaped the Arthurian legend, such as Geoffrey of Monmouth, Chretien de Troyes and Sir Thomas Malory. These author’s work, specifically Sir Thomas Malory’s, have been the main sources for many authors that translate the legend from Middle English to modern English in the late nineteenth century and the twentieth century for modern readers to understand and enjoy the fantastic legend of King Arthur. However, Malory’s famous novel “Le Morte D’Arthur” did not seem appropriate for youngsters, because of its sexual details, betrayal, adultery,…

"Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind." - Ralph Waldo Emerson. To me, this means that the only thing that keeps someone from reaching their potential is the strength of their mind. Emerson believed the weak minded were destined to fail unless they could train their mind. In life, the only person that you truly need to make happy is yourself. If you lose sight of who you really are, then you have nothing to live for. No one will be able to respect you if you cannot respect yourself. I agree with this quote for a few reasons. I am able to have a high level of respect for others who show their honesty and that belive in what they say. I am also a very honest person with high self respect. This makes me feel like a stronger person overall.…

Chivalry has countless values that are interpreted in numerous ways in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight depending on which court you look at. This is because the nature of chivalry allows an individual to interpret these meanings in a way that reflects their beliefs and values. When looking at King Arthur's court you find a very lavish court fixed on appearances and relying heavily on the chivalric virtue of courteous speech and action, which leaves little room for speaking the truth. Yet a chivalric virtue is upheld when Sir Gawain speaks the truth about the girdle he acquired and the green knight in turn states by confessing your failings you are free from blame (2391). There are also various symbols found in King Arthur's court like the…

When you Google the word humility or even look it up in the dictionary the definition is still the same. “ Humility: a modest or low view of one’s importance; humbleness”. The power of humility in the world around us is very strong. We may doubt ourselves and appreciate the good in us but no good ever comes from bragging about who you are. Yes, you should be abundantly proud of who you are, but in order for people to acquire the ability to help others you need not think of yourself but instead you must think of those around you and how you can best help them.…

Well, humility is not an astronaut saying, “Oh, I’ve just done some travelling.” I mean, he went to the moon. No, humility is not lowering oneself; humility is to make other people feel equal and understood without devaluating oneself. For example, how does a man 1.6 meter tall talk equally to a child? He has to kneel so that his face is at the same height as the child’s. This is called humility.…

Imagine you have 1 minute left in the last high school netball match you will ever play. You’re one of the shooters, and you know for a fact that there are two University scouts amongst the spectators that are very eager to choose one girl for a scholarship. Suddenly you’re in the circle and the ball is passed to you, you get ready to take the shot… but then… you see the other shooter for your team with an expression that cannot be described on her face. You know she is jealous and disappointed in herself for not being in your shoes. You know how hard she has worked for this. Now you realize that you are faced with the task of deciding to shoot, score and win the scholarship to the school of your dreams… Or pass the ball to your teammate and let her take the shot. In the last second, to everyone’s utter amazement, you pass the ball to her which allows her to shoot and score. The crowd goes nuts as the siren blares and it’s announced that your team has won. After the match, the two scouts decide to sponsor both of you for your exceptional skills! So now, after hearing that story, what is the lesson to be learned? This story shows an act of HUMILITY. Ask yourself if you would have made the same move if you were placed in that situation. C.S Lewis once said that humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less. Humility is the quality of being modest, respectful, and lacking pretence, but is often misunderstood as being meek. A while ago, somebody mentioned to me that "windowsill" was voted the most beautiful word in the English language. What many people don’t realise is that words have enormous power. They can make us erupt into laughter or bring tears to our eyes. They can influence, inspire, manipulate and shock. They can build and destroy. Some words have different effects on different people. An example of this is “humility”. It is one of those words that are mostly one-sided. Some people, like me, love the word and all it stands for.…
