Summary of the book: * When Adeline was born, her siblings called her a bad luck, because of their mother’s death. One year later, her father married a half French and half Chinese woman, who hated Adeline, as a replacement for her dead wife.
Every time Adeline receives a reward from school, she would tell her father to gain her father’s trust. When grandmother Nai nai died, Niang was in charge, she wants everything to be the way she wanted. She was transferred to another school when grandfather Yeye took them to Shanghai. There, she met a friend named PLT (Precious Little Treasure), but it was killed by Jackie as his father had told him. And she met Wu Chun-Mei, she was her best friend in school, they play and share stories together. When Adeline got to Hong Kong, she was transferred again to another school and continued to be at the top of the class, her classmates nicknamed her scholar, because she always skip levels every time the teacher told her to. Adeline won the play-writing competition and was allowed by her father to study medical school in England.

* The story took time in the early 19th century. The place is in Tianjin, in Shanghai and in Hong Kong. Adeline was always manipulated by Niang for her future, hated by her father, big brother second brother, and big sister. B.)
