Children run away from home

Do you know how many children run away from home every year? According to societyandculture.com "Every year, more than one million children in the U.S. run away from home. Kids as young as 10 are among the one in seven who leave their homes, although most runaways are between 15 and 17". From these statistics, I am beginning to wonder why this happens every year and it seems it isn’t stopping anytime soon. In a complicated society, not all families are the same. Children are affected by their family. If the family is good, then the child grows up good and vice versa. Many children have to deal with their family's problems. As a result, they want to run away to escape from their family. There are several causes of children running away from home: parent divorce, children involve drugs, and domestic violence. Divorce is a horrible word for children. If parents get divorce, they usually live separately. So children have to go with mom or dad. When they go with their mom, they can’t see their dad and vice versa. Therefore, they miss the one who they love. For a long time, the child lives with one parent, and consequently the ties with the other parent are damaged. In some cases, the parent gives children money to buy their love but somehow they spoiled their children. This is a severely bad way to raise children and often will make the situation worse. Sometime, when children feel stress and they have nobody to share with, the problem between parents and children gets bigger and bigger. This is a reason to make children run away.
Drug use by children is another reason for them to run away. According www.medicinenet.com “As of 2010, about 30% of 10th-graders used marijuana in the past year”. As you can see, some of them try to use it for the first time and became addicted with drugs after that. Often, children will leave home to obtain the drugs. Also, if their parents find out they are using drug, they will run away from home to continue to use it. Drug use can cause irrational thinking, so they think they are better off running away. The violence in family harms children. According to www.safehorizon.org, “Every year, more than 3 million children witness domestic violence in their homes”. Usually, when children witness domestic violence, they have a traumatic childhood. They have to see domestic violence every day, and that is why children have nightmares in their sleep.Normally, they don’t want anybody to know what happen in their family, because they feel embarrass with their friends. Some of them try to ignore it but the others want to escape this situation. For this reason, they will decide to run away from home to leave everything behind.

As you can see, there are three causes for children to run away from home: parents divorce, children involved in drugs, and domestic violence. I kind of understand why they try to escape from their situation. Some of them think nobody cares about them, and therefore they try to find someone to care for them. Because some of them are addicted to drugs, they leave home in order to continue using drugs. The others feel ashamed with people around them, and they leave their family.
