Childminders Behaviour policy
BEHAVIOUR POLICY
Policy Statement:
All children and adults are treated with equal concern and are made to feel welcome in my home. I aim to offer a quality childcare service for parents and children.
As a registered childminder I recognise the need to set out reasonable and appropriate limits to manage the behaviour of children in my care.
By providing a happy, safe environment, the children in my care will be encouraged to develop social skills to help them be accepted and welcome in society as they grow up.
I do not, and will not, administer physical or any other form of punishment with the intention of causing pain or discomfort, nor any kind of humiliating or hurtful treatment to any child in my care.
The most common needs and feelings that can trigger unacceptable behaviour are –
Attention, Boredom, Curiosity, Imitation, Self- preservation, Independence, Anger, Frustration, Anxiety, Fear, Excitement, and Anticipation
I endorse positive discipline as a more effective way of setting boundaries for children.
I aim to work within these guidelines that:
• Behaviour is learnt
• Behaviour can change
• Rewards work better than punishments
• Practice makes perfect
• Consistency is the key
• Never assume that a child misbehaves intentionally.
Parent(s) and I will agree methods to manage their child’s behaviour before the child has entered into my care.
PROCEDURE:
All parents receive [or have access to] a copy of my Behaviour Policy
I keep up to date with behaviour management issues and relevant legislation by taking regular training and by reading relevant publications, via www.pacey.org.uk
Promoting positive behaviour is very important and I do this by:
• Giving lots of praise for good behaviour
• Giving the children individual attention so they fee valued.
• Setting a good example, being a good role model
• Listening to what the children have to say
• Rewarding good behaviour (choosing next activity etc)
