Childhood Memory
My Favorite Childhood Memory

When I was about 4 or 5 my brothers and I were thinking of playing hide and go seek in the house. Our mom and dad were gone on a date. They went out to lunch and to a movie. We called them on the phone to see when they will be back, so they wouldn’t walk in and wonder what we were doing.
Before we got off the phone with them we asked them to call on the way home because we set the alarm. They responded and said ok. After we got off of the phone with them we played rock, paper, and scissors first to see who was going to count. Of course my brothers cheated so I had to count first. Here I am sitting on the couch, which was the base counting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 ready or not here I come. The first place I looked was in the laundry room. No one was there, so I thought. I ran to the main bathroom and checked in the tub. No one was there. The next place I went was my brother’s room. I looked in the closet and under the bed, there was no one there. I walked in mom and dad’s room and I looked in their closet, under the bed, and in their shower. Still no one was there. I sat there and thought for a second; then I thought I didn’t check my room and the garage. Of course, my brother wasn’t in my room. I ran to the base to see if one of them had made it and there both of them were sitting on the couch laughing. I screamed “I looked everywhere for y’all!!! Where were you?” They responded “We were in the garage and laundry room.” I was stuck counting again. When I finished counting this time I thought they would be hiding in the garage or laundry room again. They weren’t in there. I thought hmmm where could they be? I came back in the house and started down the hallway. I made it halfway down the hall and they grabbed me. I was screaming to the top of my lungs. They wrapped me up in two sheets and double knotted each of them.
After getting the sheets tied really tight they took me in the bathroom and put me in the tub. They ran out and turned off the lights. I was afraid of the dark. I had to untie both sheets in order to get out. When I got out I tried calling mom and dad to tell them what happened, but I took so long in the tub they were almost home. By the time they walked into the house my brothers were waiting and they kept me from telling. All leads to say is that I had fun playing hide and go seek when I was younger especially always getting tied up and having to find my way out.

I must have been no more than two when I decided that I could help mom. We lived in a three room apartment and from my room you had to go across the living room, down a short hallway and you were in the kitchen. Well mom knew that when dad was away at work the apartment was very still and quiet so as she worked in the kitchen she would check the clock on the wall and keep one ear out for me. Well she knew that if there was silence for a whole fifteen minutes then I had found something to really occupy myself with. The only question was what could a two year old have found of real interest to do? So mom would head for my room. There I was busy helping her rearrange my dresser drawers. Sitting in a pile of clothing…

It is 5 AM in the morning, my room was just plain dark as if there was no existence. I noticed my door open with a loud *Squeeeeak*, a quick hand motion I saw, almost looked it something of the speed of light. My owl next to my door was gone, I screamed out loud scared, yelling “WHOS THERE?” no one replied but a very loud *Screeeeetch*. There was someone moving down the staircase, the sounds it made spooked me. I thought to myself “Who would steal a stuffed owl?” could it be my brother or sister? I quickly just closed my door, locked it, and turned on my lights. I saw my baseball bat under all my stuffed animals, while grabbing it I grabbed my stuffed bird. Unlocking my door and going in the hall way that’s almost just like a void, seeing a…

“Why are you even bothering? You’re too stupid to read that, let alone understand it.” This phrase, and many like it, was all I heard from my biological father as I was growing up. I was one of the many unlucky children that grew up with an abusive parent. My biological father hit me, belittled me and much, much more. Yes, I am angry at him, but in a cruel round-a-bout way, my father helped me become the intelligent woman I am today.…

Growing up, Sedaris had a good life. He had a loving family that supported him and made sure he was well taking care of. Sedaris’ friend, Hugh had a very difficult lifestyle. When Hugh was growing up as a child, he saw things that children should not be forced to witness. Hugh’s class took a field trip to a slaughterhouse one day, where they were treated to a pig’s execution. “…One of the brothers drew a pistol from his back pocket, held it against the animal’s temple, and shot the piglet, execution-style.” (Paragraph 6, page 109) At another occasion, Hugh witnesses a dead man on a telephone pole. “Unlike me, he left the theater two hours later, to find a dead man hanging from a telephone pole at the far end of the unpaved parking lot.” (Paragraph 10, page 110) Hugh was often neglected by this family and spent majority of his adolescence with surrogate parents. Hugh’s life wasn’t the not good at all but Sedaris wanted Hugh’s life.…

I woke up around seven thirty or eight o’clock on Sunday morning. My mom, younger brother, and I stayed at my mom’s boyfriend’s house the night before. The original plan was to get up around five in the morning to get to the ski resort earlier, but we ended up sleeping in a little bit longer than expected. My mom woke me up by tickling my nose with a feather. With aggravation, I hurried up and opened my eyes and yelled at her. When I woke up, my mom started laughing at me. My younger brother, Mason, took forever to get himself ready. Everyone was up and ready within the next hour.…

But luckily he had left quick enough to not see what we were doing. We got back to work as soon as possible. After Caleb left we saw him come back, it’s like he just won't go away, just like a Nat. I was almost done until Giggles fell off the wall, I didn’t know what to do because I was already stuck on the wall, so now we I have to do this whole process over again. As I'm trying to pull myself off the wall, the doorbell rings. I was so frightened because we were located on the wall right in front of the door. Caleb comes rushing to the door and turns out he ordered a meat lovers pizza, my favorite pizza of all time. I was hoping he was gonna feed me too, not to mention I hadn’t eaten ALL DAY! Finally, I had duct taped myself and Giggles to the wall, and guess who came home right in time? My parents! I then began to strain a loud heavy cry as my parents dashed over to me. They got me down, and held me, everything I had wanted before they left to go to the game. Later that night they talked to my brother about being responsible and how I got duct taped to the wall. He had no answer to none of the questions. As he walked out of the there room he threw a pillow at me, I just…

    Childhood Innocence

I have checked all over the internet for a direct definition of childhood innocence, however even the Merriam-Webster dictionary does not have a definition of childhood innocence. I guess you could look up the two words separately and link the definition together. Childhood is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “the state or period of being a child”. Innocence is defined as “the state of being not guilty of a crime or other wrong act”. So childhood innocence could mean the state of being a child without being guilty of a crime or wrong act. When thinking of and defining childhood innocence, one may believe it’s a state of being carefree, pure of heart, and most importantly its very fragile. Childhood innocence is inspirational and should be protected from evils that surround it because it easily taken away.…

While my grandmother was making her homemade biscuits, I got a phone call from a friend he told me that he was sorry for what happened to my dad. I laughed and replied nothing happened to my dad and that he had the wrong person. He told me my dad’s head was decapitated at work. I immediately hung up the phone and ran downstairs. I completely forgot about where my mom and dad were. It all made sense. That is why my grandma and aunt were here. I ran downstairs; I wanted to know why no one told me that my dad was…

The lights beamed down with intensity at the green field. All was silent, for my team had just got done with practice. I was sitting down in the stands imagining the next day, everyone cheering, adrenaline pumping, and ready to take on the opposing team. I had this vision of being in the last minutes of the game with a tied score, tired but motivated. The ball passed to me as I ran through the field, shifting and pushing through the opposing team. I was now within range and with only the goalie to confuse; I strike the ball without slowing down. It’s going, it’s going.…
